ASCP Blood Bank CoordinatorA reputable hospital situated approximately an hour from Charleston, West Virginia, is looking for a meticulous and experienced Blood Bank Coordinator to manage the daily operations of our blood bank and transfusion services. This crucial position plays a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the blood bank, while upholding high standards in quality control, regulatory adherence, and patient care.Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the blood bank, including blood collection, storage, and transfusion services.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (FDA, AABB, CAP, CLIA) and perform routine quality control checks to maintain the integrity of blood products.
- Monitor blood supply levels, conduct regular inventory assessments, and collaborate with suppliers to maintain a consistent stock of blood products.
- Act as a resource for laboratory technicians, offering guidance and ensuring adherence to established procedures.
- Train staff on new protocols, safety measures, and best practices related to blood handling and transfusions.
- Document all blood bank activities meticulously, including inventory, testing results, and transfusions, in accordance with hospital policies and legal requirements.
- Collaborate with clinicians to facilitate safe and effective transfusions, including patient testing and cross-matching.
Qualifications for ASCP Blood Bank Coordinator:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Certification: ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) preferred.
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in a blood bank or clinical laboratory environment, with a minimum of 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Skills: Strong understanding of blood bank operations, exceptional attention to detail, and proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS). Excellent organizational and communication abilities are essential.
