Asphalt Raker is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that assists with the application of asphalt on highways/private roadways/parking lots/driveways using handheld tools.
Key Duties
* Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project.
* Responsible for the finished product while enforcing proper safety and traffic precautions.
* Prepare road surfaces for hot asphalt material.
* Distribute and rake asphalt material used in construction, repair and resurfacing.
* Finish surfaces by smoothing and tamping asphalt material to the proper grade and thickness to properly adhere material to road surface.
* Repair utility cuts by removing temporary material and replacing with permanent hot asphalt material
* Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
* Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Work Context:
* Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
* Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time.
* Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
* Must possess a good degree of stamina, as they often stand for long shifts with few breaks.
* Noise level is generally loud.
* Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
* Often work long and odd hours, day or night, in extreme heat or cold.
