ITT is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut with over 10,000 employees in more than 35 countries and sales in approximately 125 countries.Position SummaryAssembly Operator - Rail Shop Perform a variety of tasks that are generally repetitive in nature, including but not limited to assembly, inspection, machining, burring, packing, painting, and repair of products using hand, semi-automatic and automatic machines with single and multiple spindles. Perform a variety of operations connected with the diversified assembly or disassembly of a variety of standard and special production parts, using established procedures and methods that are usually prescribed.Essential ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)
- Position parts according to knowledge of unit being assembled or following blueprints.
- Work from operation sheets, specifications, setup charts and general instructions of the Assembly supervisor.
- Follow prescribed procedures of loading and unloading, performing operations involving the use of fixtures or holding devices.
- Perform fitting, adjusting and aligning on completed products, units and assemblies involving a number of parts, close tolerances and interrelated factors.
- Perform hand operations in the fitting of parts involving scraping, honing, polishing for accuracy.
- Occasionally perform simple drilling, reaming, tapping and other similar operations necessary to complete the assembly. Use material handling devices as required moving and handling parts and assemblies.
- Use fixtures and gauges and check parts with fixed gauges, scales, micrometers, indicators and other standard production checking devices.
- Responsible for inspecting and checking parts to detect defects or dimensional discrepancies occurring either during assembly or during customer use, and report these and other unusual conditions as directed by Department Supervisor.
- Set up and performance-test product, sub-assemblies or parts, and make necessary adjustments to meet quality standards.
- Use a variety of precision measuring instruments.
- Change dull or broken tools or inserts to maintain initial setups.
- Change setup where such change requires minor adjustments.
- Fastens parts together with bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, or other fasteners.
- Removes small quantities of metal with hand files and scrapers to produce close fit between parts.
- Operates drill presses, punch presses, or riveting machines to assist in assembly operation.
- Disassembles shock absorbers for salvage of parts.
- Duties may include a sequence of operations. Visually detect obvious defects and segregate and mark the area of defects and/or rejects.
- Move, handle, identify and secure parts and stocks as required, which may involve use of material handling equipment.
- Perform diversified duties in connection with the salvage and repair of parts and assemblies of various types of products,
- Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly manner in addition to lubrication and oiling of equipment, addition of coolant and removal of chips.
- Follow standard or prescribed safety regulations.
- Report operating and material standard difficulties to Assembly Supervisor.
- Maintain quality and quantity standards in accordance with prescribed procedures.
- Record and report production counts and time information as required.
