Job DescriptionDepartment: Service Reporting structure: Service Center Manager Job title and brief description: A precision spindle rebuild assembler is responsible for disassembling, inspecting, and rebuilding precision spindles used in various types of machine tool and other precision equipment. Assemblers may need to troubleshoot issues, identify, and replace worn or damaged parts, and ensure that the rebuilt spindles meet specified tolerances and performance standards. Strong mechanical aptitude, meticulous attention to detail, a focus on quality and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential for this position. Additionally, effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team is often required. Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required with a working knowledge of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
- Three to five years' experience in complex machine building or repair or similar work such as automotive engine/transmission repair work; experience in electronics, programmable controls, pneumatics, and hydraulics is desirable.
- Knowledge of bearings, bearing theory and proper bearing assembly protocol.
- Knowledge and understanding of G. D. T.
- Able to read and understand complex blueprints and bill of materials.
- Ability to use and read precision measuring devices.
- Experience with inspection computer software and ERP systems preferred, but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Must be able to remain standing up to 90% of the time; up to 10 hours per day.
- Constantly positions self to disassemble, reassemble, and measure assembly components.
- Constantly uses hand tools, pneumatic tools, and overhead cranes.
Primary tasks:
- Disassemble, evaluate, and assemble precision spindles and various other machine tool components to OEM specifications, or Setco provided specifications when OEM details are not provided.
- Inspect component parts to prints or Setco guided specifications.
- Disassemble, test, and install motors and other various electrical components including wiring, pinning, crimping, and soldering of connectors.
- Clean, lubricate and mount precision bearings with proper handling techniques.
- Utilize various tools and calculation methods to ensure proper setup, preload, and arrangement of bearings within a wide variety of spindle designs.
- Operate manual machines, lathes, grinders, etc.
- Maintain labor hours within MRP and ERP systems to properly track production hours on assigned jobs.
