Solar Asset Manager Work Location: 200 Liberty St., New York, NY TheSolar Asset Manager will monitor assigned utility scale and distributed generation solar projects across the United States, and Canada to ensure optimal generation performance of the company's solar photovoltaic (PV) plant portfolio as well as energy storage. Overall responsibilities will include management of third party O&M service providers, oversee large scale remediation and/or repowering efforts in coordination with project management, relationship management of key stakeholders (i.e. PPA off takers, landowners, local government and permitting agencies etc.), performance analysis and reporting, preparation of Expense and Capital budgets and collaborating cross functionally with other internal stakeholders (i.e. FP&A, Accounting, Tax, Legal, HSSE, Development, Procurement etc.) The Solar Asset Manager will work closely with the Operations and Engineering teams to achieve overall Solar performance goals. Travel to project sites when needed. Responsibilities

  • Manage O&M service providers to ensure assigned assets meet or exceed the weather adjusted performance targets; monitor assigned assets, identify underperformance and production issues, work with O&M service providers to identify and execute remediation
  • Keep track of Exclusion Events under the O&M agreement, review and ensure the accurate calculation of Liquidated Damages and Performance Bonus associated with Performance Guarantee (if applicable)
  • Travel to project sites to verify general condition of the projects, oversee large scale remediation and/or repowering efforts when needed (10-20%)
  • Maximize the total returns for each asset through the analysis of system efficiency and identifying opportunities for improved performance
  • Create detailed comprehensive reports on assigned solar projects as needed
  • Review performance reports and project specific performance data; Investigate issues and initiate actions to improve performance
  • Develop, justify and manage Expense and Capital budgets, complete forecasting and cost variance analysis
  • Ownership of operational compliance requirements related to material project documents associated with assigned projects, including but not limited to; O&M Agreements, Interconnection Agreement (IA), PPA agreements, ISO requirements, Conditional Use permits, Leases and Easements, facilitate agreement amendments and assignments as needed
  • Responsible to maintain compliance tracking, prepare reporting to external and internal stakeholders and management.
  • Provide approval and guidance for compliance tasks to internal and external stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including but not limited to Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Accounting, Tax, Legal, HSSE, Development, Procurement and Risk & Insurance
  • Responsible for the following, with support from other TERP internal stakeholders and functions:
    • Permit management, renewal, and compliance
    • Public Utility Corporation(s) compliance requirements
    • Insurance requirements/renewal support
    • Off-taker requirements
    • Lender requirements
  • Ensure regulatory, interconnection and Health, Safety, Security and Environmental compliance; Ensure assets are operated and managed consistent with Brookfield's Policies;
    • Responsible for Environmental compliance requirements, with support from environmental team
    • Responsible to ensure O&M contractors compliance to Contractor General Health and Safety Obligations
  • Optimization and management of newly allocated or purchased assets
  • Responsible for all NERC (GO & GOP) compliance requirements (for applicable assets), with support from Operations, Risk & Compliance manager
  • Support financing, M&A, and development initiatives as needed
  • Assist FP&A in preparing investor reports, budgets for investors and lenders and resolve any issues or questions
  • Review, track and approve operating expenses incurred by assets
  • Manage relationships with external key stakeholders, including but not limited to property owners, PPA off takers, utilities, ISOs, local and federal governments, permitting and regulatory agencies; support host customer's re-roofing requests as needed
  • Provide timely work products to support management and reporting of operating assets
  • Support business functions applicable to assets assigned; Vendor management, PO generation, vendor payment
  • Collaborate with FP&A and Accounting to ensure accuracy of billing to customers and resolve issues if needed
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures to ensure all procedural, legislative and contract requirements are fulfilled
  • Participate in the development of an asset compliance calendar. Where specified, manage and monitor compliance in all contracts and activities
  • Maintain knowledge of the political and energy market trends within the regions; maintain or establish good working relationship with equipment manufacturers and other key industry players
Requirements
  • Working knowledge of US renewable energy and storage markets
  • Demonstrated commitment and participation in developing an accident free work environment
  • Strong analytical skills and preferable experience in budget preparation and management
  • Technical understanding of solar generation and energy storage; Familiarity with computerized DAS/SCADA/Monitoring systems, interconnection agreements and data management
  • In field / hands on experience in solar construction and operations is strongly preferred
  • Strong business acumen and commercial and financial mindset
  • Proven ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to understand financial models and the potential impact of operations on investments
  • Ability to define issues, analyze problems, evaluate alternatives and develop sound solutions
  • Exceptional influence and communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, peers, partners and other stakeholders
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of large-scale utility solar is a plus
  • 10-20% of travel is expected
Qualifications
  • At least 3 years' experience in the solar industry (Asset management experience/knowledge preferred)
  • Degree in engineering or other technical field related to Solar PV. Additional education in finance or accounting a plus.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations pertaining to Solar PV work preferred.
  • Technology savvy, advanced computer skills especially in MS Office Suite
  • Proven experience in negotiation
  • Energy asset management experience in utility scale solar PV in North America, experience in Commercial & Industrial solar PV is a plus
  • Experience in Storage technologies is an asset
  • Experience in green field and/or brownfield development is an asset
  • Ability to perform work in outdoor environments, climb to height, possess visual acuity.
Pay Range: $130k-150k/yr.
