Located in Stafford Virginia, the Rouse Center (JRSSC) is a state-of-the-art 76,000 square foot facility that houses a 50-meter competition pool with movable bulkhead and seating for over 800 spectators, a 25-yard recreation pool, a warm-water wellness pool, a group exercise studio, fitness floor, a full-size basketball court, and a full-service cafe to serve guests. The Rouse Center offers cycling, a variety of group exercise classes, swimming lessons, and lifeguarding. The center offers league play for adults in volleyball, basketball, Lil' Kickers soccer for children 18 months- 9 years, summer camps, clinics, classes, a J-Club kids' area for all those active kids ages 10 weeks -12 years old. The Jeff Rouse Swim and Sports Center is managed by Eastern Sports Management (ESM) based in Fredericksburg, Virginia. ESM's management portfolio consists of venues in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.The Assistant Aquatics Director - Operations is responsible for directly managing lifeguards (interview, hire, train, evaluate) and assists with the management of aquatics programs with the continual goal of better usage of the pool, and meeting the needs of the community. JRSSC is currently seeking an Assistant Aquatics Director for Operations. The Assistant Aquatics Director for Operations oversees lifeguards and will work shifts as needed and be responsible for the maintenance of all pool operations and oversee all equipment and maintenance to ensure proper pool functioning. The Assistant Aquatics Director for Operations maintains a safe swim environment by enforcing all rules and regulations of the pool as well as preventing and responding to all emergencies. The Assistant Aquatics Director for Operations will report directly to the Aquatics Director. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Aquatics Director and Assistant Aquatics Director for Programs with the interviewing, selection, training and retention of part time aquatics staff
- Enforce all personnel policies and guidelines in accordance with JRSSC policies
- Act as a representative of the Aquatics Department at JRSSC management team meetings
- Maintain professionalism at all times
- Oversee swim meet operations in conjunction with aquatics staff to ensure outstanding service for members, guests and attendees
- Assist with set-up and breakdown of equipment for swim meets
- Assist Assistant Aquatics Director for Programs and Aquatics Director with scheduling
- Conduct In-Service Trainings once LGI certified
- Perform daily pool operator tasks in pump room
- Oversee Lifeguards and ensure they are following proper procedures; take corrective action when necessary
- Coach and discipline staff when needed
- Notify Aquatics Director & Assistant Aquatics Director for Programs of any action that demands attention
- Scan surveillance areas to ensure the safety of all patrons
- Act in emergency situations and provide appropriate care
- Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas
- Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer first aid when needed
- Maintain order in swimming areas
- Able to successfully perform the Lifeguard pretest once every 6 months to maintain employment
- Help maintain a clean pool environment
- Conduct chemical checks on scheduled basis
- Fill out any necessary reports for accidents or incidents
- Able to work in a wet pool environment including some chemicals
- Possess strong customer service skills
- Able to multi-task and be well organized
- Able to work in team environment
- Able to communicate effectively with others, verbally and in writing
- Must have flexible hours including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned by the Aquatics Director and/or the General Manager
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and supervise a total of 15-25 employees
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the JRSSC's policies and applicable laws
- Responsibilities include:
- Training employees
- Evaluating performance
- Counseling employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Scheduling monthly shifts

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.). Upon hire and training, the individual must be able to successfully utilize the Jeff Rouse Swim and Sport Center Timeclock software. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the following:
- Lifeguarding
- CPR/AED
- First Aid
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) / Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification, or previous equivalent experience
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred
- LGI Certification (must be able to acquire certification within 4 months of employment)
