Work Week Schedule:Varies between: Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 9:00 PM & Saturday-Sunday, 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Depends on Facility Needs) ESSENTIAL DUTIES(These functions are representative and may not be present in all positions in the class. Assigns, instructs, and supervises the work of pool personnel, including senior lifeguards, swim instructors, lifeguards and cashier clerks.Enforces established rules and regulations governing safe use of pools.Organizes and supervises aquatic activities and events.Instructs swimming classes and aquatic programs.May test pool water for correct chemical balance and treat with chemicals as required by State and local health departments.May maintain filtration and chlorination plant.Conduct weekly facility inspection and submit service requests on an as needed basis.Conduct weekly assessments of facility needs and ensures they are metSupervises collection and disbursement of cash.Secures cash, bank, and pool receipts and tickets.Prepares reports, on the status of pool water, facility, and pool activities.Interprets current policies and procedures to the public.Recruits, certify, and trains staff.Conduct pertinent American Red Cross Certification Trainings.Assists in use of pertinent computer-based recreation and aquatic software programs.Performs related duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS A typical way to obtain the requisite qualifications to perform the duties of this class is as follows:Education and/or Experience: Associates Degree and approximately three (3) seasons of paid experience in aquatics. Experience and/or education in a related field may be substituted on a year for year basis.Knowledge of:
- Train, certify, and supervise personnel;
- Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers, First Aid, Title 22, Oxygen Administration, and Blood-borne Pathogens;
- Effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- Instruct classes in swimming, and aquatic activities;
- Enforce water safety rules and regulations;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other and deal tactfully with the public.
License and/or Certificates:Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license. Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice program, which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects the driving record.Possession of the following requirements-
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor's certificate.

Medical Insurance (Eligible Unit Members)
- The City contracts with CalPERS for medical benefits, which offers employees a choice of various HMOs and PPOs.
- The City shall pay the required monthly minimum of $143.00 towards the monthly health insurance premium.
- For unit members who have eight (8) years or more of consecutive service with the City and currently working 1,000 hours or more per fiscal year, the City provides an optional benefits package (medical and vision) and, effective May 26, 2016, the City provides an additional $314.00 per month to be used towards these optional benefits for employee and eligible dependents.
Sick Leave
- Paid sick leave shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour for each 30 hours worked to a maximum of 24 hours per year.
- Unit members shall be entitled to use accrued paid sick time beginning on the 90th day of employment, defined as sick leave accrual and usage.
- Paid sick leave shall be taken in increments of not less than one (1) hour.
Holiday Pay (Unit members will receive holiday pay only if they are scheduled to work during the pay period in which the holiday falls).Effective calendar year 2012, unit members will receive five (5) hours of holiday pay for each of the following holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Memorial Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day.
