Department: Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies (possible joint appointment in Agricultural and Applied Economics, Geography, or related programs)
Our Mission: We seek a socio-environmental scholar with a transdisciplinary approach to work at the intersection of land systems science, environmental economics, and agroecology. The ideal candidate will contribute to our program's focus on achieving sustainability through environmental monitoring, data-driven research, community engagement, technological innovation, and policy outreach. Topical areas of research may include: deforestation/reforestation; land use transition; grassland management; agro-ecological systems; ecosystem restoration; or watershed management. We welcome diverse methodological approaches including, but not limited to, land use modelling, applied econometrics, machine learning, supply chain analysis, life cycle assessment, and climate economics. We encourage applications that consider approaches that engage diverse publics, landowners and managers, and local and Indigenous communities. Applicants are expected to develop a nationally competitive program of research, including external funding and a record of successful teaching and mentoring of students.

Responsibilities:
* Develop a robust research program that examines pathways to sustainable and equitable land resource management.
* Teach undergraduate and graduate courses on land systems science, quantitative methods, environmental monitoring, and/or social-ecological systems.
* Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to bridge the gap between theory and practice in environmental sustainability.
* Engage with relevant stakeholders to inform policy development and community engagement strategies.

Education:
Required
PhD in Environmental Economics, Agricultural or Resource Economics, Geography, Environmental Studies, or a closely related fields, by the start date of the position
Qualifications:
* Demonstrated expertise in research methods such as causal inference, environmental monitoring, land resource economics, and/or community-based research.
* Strong record of scholarship, with publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
* Instructional experience preferred, with record of teaching excellence strongly desired in a diverse classroom setting.
* Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and public outreach

To be hired at the associate or full professor level, candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials that meet the tenure standards of the UW-Madison Divisional Committee and of the Nelson Institute.
