Position Title Assistant/Associate Professor in Computational Chemistry Position Number 896409 School/Division Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences-Natural Science Department Full-Time or Part-Time Description

The Chemistry Department at Hofstra University (www.hofstra.edu/chemistry) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in Computational Chemistry beginning September 1, 2025. Any area spanning computational chemistry will be considered. Successful candidates will be able to teach general chemistry (lecture and lab) and will have the opportunity to teach other courses in their area of expertise. A typical teaching load alternates between 2 and 3 courses per semester. The Chemistry Department serves only undergraduate students, with small class sizes (10-20) for junior and senior majors. The Chemistry Department offers undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Chemistry (with ACS accreditation), and Forensic Science.

This hire is part of a cluster in Big Data and Computational Research in the Natural Sciences. The cluster is designed to support the University's goals with respect to diversity, inclusion, and belonging, and the Chemistry Department encourages candidates from underrepresented groups in higher education to apply.

In addition to their teaching responsibilities, the candidate will be expected to establish a vibrant research program centered on undergraduates and seek external grant funding. Intra- and extramural research collaborations are strongly encouraged. A high-performance computing (HPC) cluster is being built through a collaborative endeavor to support computation- and data-intensive applications as part of an awarded National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation grant. The HPC cluster will provide an environment that enables faculty and students to engage in computer-related teaching, learning, and research activities. The candidate will be granted access to this computational resource.

The candidate will also provide service to the department, college, and university. Experience advising and mentoring individuals from groups underrepresented in STEM fields is highly desirable. Qualifications

* PhD in chemistry or related field required by time of employment.

* Potential to establish a successful research program that utilizes the HPC cluster. Research may be on any topic that is chemistry-, biochemistry-, or forensics-related

* Experience teaching undergraduate chemistry courses

* Recent peer-reviewed publications

Preferred Quals Summary

* Postdoctoral or industry work experience is desired but not required

* Openness to collaboration with the computational cohort to develop undergraduate classes and research initiatives

Salary/Salary Range $90,000-$135,000
