Position Type: Administration/DirectorDate Posted: 5/2/2024Location: Poplar Bluff Junior HighDate Available: 07/29/2024Closing Date: UNTIL FILLEDTITLE: ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR REPORTS TO: ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, BUILDING ADMINISTRATORS JOB GOAL: TO ENABLE ELIGIBLE STUDENTS, TO TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THE COMPLETE RANGE OF INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS, PROGRAMS, AND EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES OFFERED BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. Performance Responsibilities:
  • The Assistant Athletic Director will adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • The Assistant Director will adhere to all rules and regulations set forth by the Poplar Bluff Board of Education.
  • Assist the transportation department in meeting bus transportation needs for athletic teams and extracurricular activities.
  • Maintain safety standards per state, federal, and insurance company regulations. Assures compliance with all state laws and regulations for school sports.
  • Attend appropriate committee, staff, and collaboration meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with the Athletic Director on progress and problems relative to the athletic program.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Athletic Director.
  • Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Keeps an accurate set of records and documentation deemed necessary for the athletic department.
  • Complete all reports required by state and federal authorities and the Poplar Bluff Board of Education.
  • Implements operation and safety training programs.
  • Cooperates with principals and others responsible for planning athletic events.
  • Acts as liaison with parents concerning complaints and special requests.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Athletic Director or their designee.
  • Maintain a cheerful attitude.
  • Ensure working conditions and facilities are as pleasant, safe, and efficient as possible for everyone.
  • See that buildings and grounds at sports facilities are kept clean and in good repair.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, students, parents, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Exhibit qualities of leadership and organizational ability and reflect a spirit of cooperation in working with staff and school administration.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in oral and written form.

  • Supervise extra and co-curricular activities
  • Assist with scheduling/contest confirmation
  • Game/Event Management/supervision
  • Finalize bus transportation for Athletic Teams
  • Assist with Facility upkeep
  • Understanding of the MSHSAA by-laws and website
  • Attend Conference and State meetings
  • Fill out official payment forms and secure payment for officials
  • Tech Support of scoreboards/controllers as well as sound equipment at our various venues
  • Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Must communicate with administrators, teachers, and other staff members.
  • Must be able to communicate with parents and students.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • The Assistant Athletic Director frequently works irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties of this job.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors (outdoors in hot, wet, and cold weather).
  • Must be able to coordinate with others to provide an effective athletic program.
  • Must have dexterous use of both hands and be able to operate power tools, hand tools, and mechanical hand tools.
  • Must understand and follow up on verbal, electronic, digital, or telephone-delivered orders or instructions.
  • Must be able to read and understand written orders and instructions.
  • Qualifications:
  • Valid Teaching Certificate.
  • Five years of teaching, coaching, or administrative experience.
  • Actively pursue a class B school bus license with P and S endorsements.
