The assistant athletic trainer adheres to the plan developed by the head athletic trainer to provide for the health and safety of student athletes, athletics and other College staff, and people attending on-campus athletics events. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, implementing and monitoring a comprehensive health and safety program for athletics and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures of Northland College, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Midwest Lacrosse Conference, and State of Wisconsin Statutes.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Key Responsibilities
* Provide medical education to student athletes.
* Provide medical coverage for assigned athletic teams participating in practices and competitions.
* Assess and monitor the rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries occurring as a result of participation in a department-sponsored competition or practice.
* Make appropriate medical referrals and/or provide medical treatment for student athletes within the guidelines of KRS 311.900.
* Communicate with coaches, both in writing and orally, the extent of any injury along with the methods of rehabilitation.
* Maintain office hours for the convenience of student athletes who may become ill and/or injured outside of scheduled practice times.
* Supervise the healthcare of injured and ill student athletes recovering or rehabilitating.
* Maintain an injury reporting system documenting the type of medical treatment administered in the disposition of each injured student athlete.
* Maintain communication with the athletics program's team physician or their designated agent, and/or the physician of record in regards to the disposition, treatment, and rehabilitation of student athletes who become injured or ill as a result of their participation in a department-sponsored competition or practice.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree through a CAATE-accredited institution required. Master's degree preferred.
* Must be Board of Certification (BOC) certified and possess a Wisconsin state licensure, or be eligible for licensure in the state of Wisconsin.
* CPR and AED certification required.

Work Environment:
Exposure to computer screens; and contact with student athletes, coaches, College administration, faculty, and staff either in person, by telephone, or electronically. Possible lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, stretching, and stooping. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Ability to handle high amounts of stress.
