Job Type Full-timeDescriptionBoys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) will be launching an on-site after-school Beacon for Malcolm X Academy (Malcolm X) for the 2021-2022 academic school year. Through this partnership, BGCSF will provide a comprehensive program to approximately 130 students from Kindergarten to fifth grade that consists of a balance of academic and enrichment activities.Malcolm X Academy is located in the vibrant Bayview-Hunters Point (BHP) neighborhood. BHP is a historically African-American neighborhood that is currently undergoing a lot of transition. Rapid development and gentrification are issues that residents face on a daily basis. Although schools in BHP have a reputation for low performance, those numbers do not capture the potential of the students that show up every day. Malcolm X Academy benefits from strong leadership and a staff dedicated to seeing youth succeed in school. The Assistant Beacon Director is a person who understands the challenges that students and the community face and is dedicated to creating a positive environment of success.Key Responsibilities & Primary DutiesProgram Management & Leadership
  • Provide day-to-day support for BGCSF staff to provide clear direction of needs, activities and responsibilities for each day of programming.
  • Manage the daily schedules and monthly calendars to ensure that staff are delivering quality programs, meeting requirements and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Build positive relationships with the school community - staff, administration, families and students - to ensure that all voices are represented and communication is effective.
  • Working with key stakeholders, coordinate high-quality school wide events, including monthly Family Nights, assemblies and other events as needed.
  • Create and maintain transitions and systems that mirror those of the Malcolm X Academy community to ensure a safe and positive environment.
  • Maintain knowledge of and ensure full compliance with the SF Department of Children, Youth & their Families (DCYF), San Francisco Beacon Initiative, and ExCEL policies and procedures.
  • With the Beacon Director, co-develop and manage the annual budget.
  • Active involvement at the Beacon, especially during peak times, ensuring program execution and youth engagement.
Successful goal completion & participant outcomes
  • With the Beacon Director, create program goals, objectives, outcomes and evaluation instruments before the start of each school year.
  • Conduct regular program observation and provide feedback and strategies directly to staff, and in program development, to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Beacon Director in preparation of funder reports and evaluation. documentation.
  • Maintain all program records.
Staff and volunteer management
  • Work with Senior Director of School Based Clubs, Citywide Director of Education and HR to recruit, screen, hire, train, supervise and terminate staff.
  • Manage volunteers on-site to maintain professionalism, punctuality and the safety of students at all times.
  • Assist in the professional development of staff and maintain a current knowledge of the education and youth development trends.
Collaborate with community partners, families, San Francisco Beacon Initiative and SFUSD
  • Support outreach to youth, families and community partners, including creation of all relevant marketing materials.
  • Build strong relationships with school staff, teachers and administration to improve and enhance alignment between Malcolm X Academy and the Beacon.
  • Collaborate closely with community stakeholders including parents and caregivers, community-based organizations, and SFUSD.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the larger BGCSF organization and promote program visibility within the Beacon and BGCSF.
  • Build positive relationships with families and ensure good communication about the Beacon programs and resources.
  • Manage partnerships on-site and communicate with Citywide Director of Education and partner programs to ensure programs are delivering quality programs and maintaining safety of the youth.
RequirementsMinimum Qualifications:
  • 3 or more years of related work experience in or with schools and with community based organizations.
  • Experience in program development and management.
  • Proficient in working with MS Excel/Office and attendance database systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the best practices in youth development program planning, curriculum development, methods of teaching, and evaluation.
  • Proven ability to work with people from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual orientation backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university or related work experience or a Masters degree in education, administration, social services or related field plus a minimum of 1 year of program administration.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification (or within 90 days of employment).
  • Valid CA Class C Driver's License, comfortable driving in San Francisco and transporting youth members.
  • Language Skills: Fluent/Bilingual in Spanish.
Pay:The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs. At BGCSF, our decisions are based on other factors and dependent on circumstances for each position. Depending on the need and requirement of the position, an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid - level or top of the range for their role and compensation.
