Location: Denham Springs/Walker Branch Schedule: 40 hours weekly (Weekend Rotation) The Livingston Parish Library seeks a dedicated and experienced library professional to serve as the Assistant Branch Manager at its Denham Springs-Walker Branch. The Denham Springs-Walker Branch is the largest and busiest of the system's facilities. The Assistant Branch Manager performs professional-level work, overseeing the daily activities and functions of the branch and assists the Branch Manager with projects and special tasks as needed. The position is part of the Library's management team and oversees branch staff, building maintenance, and patron services. This position will be required to work some evening and night hours during the week and will be required to work some weekends. Facility: 28,920 square feet Staff Size: 25+ Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain knowledge of library policies and procedures.
  • Train new employees and retrain existing staff on policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Branch Manager with arranging daily staff schedules for optimum coverage and service.
  • Act as a coach and mentor for supervised staff.
  • Work with the Branch Manager to document and discipline supervised staff.
  • Monitor the library facility for any active or potential maintenance issues and work with the Branch Manager to resolve them.
  • Facilitate Outreach and Community Engagement events in person and on the digital calendar and help plan and sign off on Program Forms.
  • Ensure accuracy and timely payroll and leave records submission for supervised staff.
  • Participate in committees as needed or as requested by the Library Administration.
  • Oversee the accuracy of money and statistical reports as needed by the Branch Manager.
  • Attend monthly Leadership Meetings and Branch Manager Meetings.
  • Fill in as needed at frontline service points, including Adult Reference, Youth Services, Circulation, Computer, and Idea Labs.
  • Fulfill any additional librarian duties as needed or assigned by the Branch Manager of Library Administration.
While the Assistant Branch Manager is responsible for administrative and managerial duties at the branch, they are also a working manager. This means that the Assistant Branch Manager should be ready and able to step into any frontline staff position and fill in during times of need. The Assistant Branch Manager may also be called to act as Acting Manager if the Branch Manager is incapacitated, the position is vacant, or they are on extended leave. Education and Work Experience Requirements
  • Must thoroughly know library principles, methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Must be able to plan, lead, mentor, and supervise other staff.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in public with both staff and patrons.
  • Must possess tact, courtesy, and good judgment.
  • Must possess an MLS or MLIS degree issued by an ALA-accredited library school.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience working in a public, school, or academic library.
