JOB SUMMARY

Step into an exciting camp leadership role as you help cultivate a healthy and happy camp experience for all! Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Assistant Camp Director will be responsible for coordinating progressive program areas, special events, and lifeguards. You will also provide supervision to Camp Counselors.

Pay for this role is $750/week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Attend and contribute to all staff trainings, meetings, and events.

* Oversee Camp Counselors with regard to program quality and enforcing camp policies. When necessary, assist the Camp Director with evaluations of Camp Counselors.

* Cooperate with the Teen Leadership Counselor to create a smooth progression of quality experiences within the Teen Leadership Program.

* Assist Camp Counselors in planning quality Progressive Program Area activities such as: Kayaking, Swimming, Arts and Crafts, Target Sports, Hiking, Field Sports, Biking, Low Ropes Course, Outdoor Skills, and Nature Exploration.

* Implement staff motivation and recognition programs.

* Coordinate activities in the overall weekly schedule of camp.

* Maintain a professional appearance and be prepared to make all parents, families, and campers feel comfortable with all questions answered.

* Provide guidance and mediation to campers, staff, and teen leaders.

* Supervise all staff and campers, in the absence of the Camp Director.

* Fill in as a Camp Counselor when needed.

* Support and complete any directives or other tasks assigned by the Camp Director.

* Supervise staff and campers during some of the Thursday overnight camping experiences.

* Exemplify the YMCA values of CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT, AND RESPONSIBILITY in all aspects of job performance and in relationship with others.

* Ensure the safety of all participants by using sound judgment, enforcing camp rules and policies, and adhering to the written policies of the American Camp Association. In the event of an emergency, serve as a first responder (responding, reporting, and preventing).

* Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff, children and volunteers which includes:

* Follow employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening tools to screen for abuse risk.

* Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.

* Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with children.

* Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.

* Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization's progressive disciplinary procedures.

* Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.

* Follow mandated reporting requirements.

* Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization's commitment to protect children from abuse.

* Report essential abuse risk management information to VP, Chief People Officer & Risk Management Officer.

SKILLS AND TRAINING

* Must be at least 21 years of age (High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required). College courses or credits in child development are preferred.

* Must have at least three months, or one season, of day or resident camping experience, preferably in a leadership role.

* Leadership skills, excellent organizational and communication skills, a cooperative attitude, and the ability to work with and understand the needs of children in a camp atmosphere are required.

* Must enjoy working with youth in an exciting outdoor environment and have some demonstrated leadership abilities in this capacity.

* An appreciation of outdoor living, nature, and camp setting is essential.

* Ability to think flexibly and adjust to the unpredictability of camp life. Anything can happen!

* Sufficient visual, auditory, communicative, and cognitive abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

* First Aid and CPR Certification required prior to the beginning of camp (training available).

* Lifeguard Certification preferred (training available); You will be required to swim 300 yards continuously, perform a surface dive to depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10lb object from the bottom of the pool, and tread water for 2 minutes.

* Considerable physical movement to include running, walking, hiking, boating, swimming, games, etc. required. Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds with or without assistance.

* Must possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record as defined by the Greater Green Bay YMCA policy.

* Must have reliable transportation to travel to and from assigned start and end locations, including bus sites and camp, ensuring punctuality and consistency in fulfilling job responsibilities.
