This is an entry-level position designed for training while an individual is working to obtain his or her Caregiver certification. This position will be under the direct supervision of a Certified Caregiver at all times. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/ or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Essential Job Duties:All tasks assigned to an Assistant Caregiver will be under the supervision of the Certified Caregivers on duty, the Director of Health Services (DHS) and the Executive Director.- Complete daily work assignments as given by the Med Tech or DHS.- Help residents with showers, dressing and other ADLs as directed.- Perform light housekeeping for residents as necessary.- Spend any downtime interacting with residents, either by participating in an activity or visiting one on one in their apartments. - Perform basic housekeeping in cottage, shower area and other public places in the building as directed. - Assist in resident meal preparation and clean up as directed.- Report any issues with residents or fellow Team Members to your DHS.- Ability to work harmoniously with peers, and to deal respectfully with residents, their family members and visitors.- Direct questions from outside persons (doctors, family members, etc) to Certified Caregivers on duty, the DHS and the Executive Director - Report verbally and in writing on individual resident's abilities and potential changes to the service needs.- Assist other departments as needed to ensure a safe working environment is maintained. This includes reporting safety hazards promptly.- Present oneself in a professional manner. - Willingness to adapt to the changing demands of this position. - Be helpful and polite to residents and staff, understanding of their needs and respect their privacy, personal property and confidentiality. - Keep your areas of responsibility clean, neat and organized. - Cooperate with and be polite to all Team Members, family and visitors.- Other duties as assigned by Certified Caregivers on duty, the DHS and the Executive Director.Knowledge and Skills:- Ability to use proper transfer procedures and body mechanics.- Ability to read and interpret written procedures and directions.- Ability to lift, bend, stretch, squat, stand and other movements to perform resident assistant functions and reach in confined spaces. - Possess manual dexterity adequate for care purposes.- Ability to transfer residents with appropriate assistance. - Ability to read, comprehend and follow written instructions and company policies.- Ability to read, understand and discuss individual resident service needs and the services to be provided on a scheduled and on-call basis. - Ability to complete ongoing education and maintain certification.Requirements:- Must be at least 16 years old (cannot obtain Caregiver certification until the age of 18)- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED). - Must have current Food Handler's Card, Adult CPR and Basic First Aid Training.- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine report and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of residents, family or staff.Physical Demands:- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.- Expected to respond to emergency situations involving the safety of residents, other Team Members and the facility.
