Team member must successfully complete the Watco General Code of Operating Rules course and examination.
Team member must successfully complete the Watco Rules Governing Train Dispatchers course and examination.
Team member must successfully complete the examination for The United States Hazardous Material Instruction for Rail.
Team member must prove that he or she can successfully learn and operate the dispatching system within 6 months' time.
Must have train Operations experience or at least 5 years as a railroad dispatcher that followed General Code of Operating Rules.
Assistant Chief Dispatcher Duties
The Assistant Chief Dispatcher works directly with the Chief Dispatcher to ensure daily operations are conducted safely and efficiently. Duties may be continued outside of the office via cell phone assisting dispatchers with questions even after normal shift hours if on call.
Assists in screening, evaluating, interviewing and has direct input for selection of new team members within dispatch.
Provides direct input regarding coaching, mentoring, performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
Assist with creating training procedures for new dispatchers and continual training for seasoned dispatchers. Training on these procedures as needed.
Work with the dispatchers to ensure they have the tools to problem solve any situations that arise on shift. Where needed provide coaching and training on how to find tools they are not familiar with.
Monitoring, testing, and looking for efficiencies within the dispatching system. Working with software providers on how we changes needed and how they impact our dispatch team. When updates are made helping implement the change and coaching the team through changes.
Performing various administrative duties relative to hours-of-service requirements, hazardous materials, documentation of train movements, the reporting of rule violations, etc.
Listen to staff concerns, diffuse or correct those concerns professionally and efficiently.
Implement and train dispatchers on changes in the department anytime they occur.
Assist training and new implementation of new policies and procedures and upgrades to the system.
Scheduling, testing, payroll, accident documentation.

ALTA Training.
