Job Description:
Essential Functions:Accounting and Finance Operations
  • Continue to build and maintain a strong control framework that verifies the integrity of all systems, processes, and data, which includes, but is not limited to: internal and external monthly financial statements, shareholder accounting, accounts payable, purchase orders, expense reports, payroll processing, payroll tax compliance, billings, cash receipts, departmental budgets/forecasts, and actual expenditures. Strong ability to document and maintain control narratives a plus.
  • Along with external consultants, oversee audit and tax functions to ensure a clean and timely year end audit
  • Coordinate with the Director of FP&A in leading the local compilation of monthly movement and storage schedule and managing the budget process
    • Ensure SMBSC movement and storage schedules are accurate, cost effective and efficient, including understanding annual, monthly and day-to-day schedules and constraints in conjunction with the Company's external marketing/trading partners
    • Work with local management to build an annual budget and monthly forecasts, discussing variances to the forecast
  • Coordinate yearend effort around producing annual report
  • Be accountable for owning the Renville balance sheet and reconciliations
  • Ensure an accurate and timely financial close (six days)
  • Collaborate with other department leaders to support overall business goals and objectives
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Spending authorization reviewer on board approved approval chain for expenditures and capital requests.
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Create Technical Accounting Memos as the needs arise for documentation
  • Respond to inquiries across the business regarding financial results and reporting, special reporting requests and the like
  • Assist in developing and implementing of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department and operations
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
  • Work on special projects and workflow process improvements; manage projects for any system implementation or upgrade
  • Resolve complex accounting issues
Insurance
  • Manage annual renewal of insurance policies
  • Coordinate with insurance brokers on large claims for the business
Leadership
  • Offers leadership by strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the Company; creates and promotes a positive and supportive work environment that promotes housekeeping and safety
  • Provides subject matter expertise on accounting and finance-related topics to the Executive Team, operations and other vested partners
  • Serve on leadership committees aimed at creating an Employer of Choice culture
  • Maintain memberships and affiliations with trade and/or professional organizations related to the company

  • Broad understanding of accounting and economic practices
    • Knowledge of applicable accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts, regulatory standards and compliance as well as corporate procedures; payroll practices and standard labor laws, including familiarity with payroll deductions and withholdings
    • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data
    • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
    • Ability to provide guidance and expert advice to executive management and other groups based on technical, system-related or process-related topics in accounting and finance
    • In depth knowledge of SSCI plant operating, loadout and inventory capacities while seeking opportunities with key partners to utilize turn times and become more efficient

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
    • Ability to operate computerized accounting and spreadsheet programs
    • Ability to create formulas, pivot tables, and graphs using Microsoft Excel

    • Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with internal and external audiences and maintain these relationships over time to advance the overall public image of SMBSC
    • Ability to have a high attention to detail

Required Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; Certified Public Accountant and/or Master's in Business Administration preferred
  • Ten or more years of experience working in accounting with at least five years' experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting
