The Assistant Controller will assist with all accounting aspects of the finance department including the monthly close and analyzing financial statements and reports, financial planning and budgeting processes, developing financial models, preparing projections, and performing research and analysis as may be required by leadership. As an Assistant Controller, you will partner with internal teams to provide them with financial guidance and assist with grant compliance reporting. You will also be the liaison to the external auditors. To be successful, you should be able to perform a variety of financial activities including accounting, planning, analysis, budgeting and reporting. You should also be able to present financial information and models in a concise and easily comprehensible manner. Accounting
  • Managing the monthly close process with finance staff.
  • Assisting with report generation for the Board of Directors and Committees.
  • Preparing the consolidated financial statements each month and reviewing with the CFO.
  • Preparing for annual audits and serve as a liaison to external auditors.
  • Ensuring compliance with GAAP and other government regulations.
  • Assisting with the selection and implementation of new accounting system.
Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Reviewing and analyzing financial statements and reports.
  • Developing and tracking KPIs and preparing financial reports.
  • Assisting with annual budgeting process.
  • Understanding key business drivers.
  • Analyze current processes and structures to provide recommendations for continuous improvement and efficiencies.
  • Partnering with internal teams to support financial management.
  • Developing financial projections and building financial models with assistance of CFO.
  • Ensuring compliance with financial guidelines, company policies and relevant legal regulations.
Grant Administration and Compliance
  • Support preparation of grant budgets for inclusion in proposals for programs/projects in partnership with the Development team.
  • Support creation of customized grant reports for funders, program/project directors and senior management.
  • Support Development team in ensuring accurate financial information related to tracking and reporting of grants/funding.
  • Perform additional grant administration tasks, as needed and assigned by the CFO.
Other Duties
  • Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and trustworthiness.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures and report all unsafe working conditions and potential hazards to immediate supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned verbally or in writing by the immediate supervisor or designee.

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • 5-10+ years of experience in accounting, with some experience managing finance staff.
  • Competency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, Microsoft Navision, etc.).
  • Advanced experience with Excel and familiarity working with databases and data extraction.
  • Ability to present financial information to a non-financial audience.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Detail-oriented, strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience in non-profit accounting a plus, but not required.
