Summary The Assistant Controller must perform several tasks in supporting the accounting operations of the company. The Assistant Controller must have strong mathematical, organizational, written and verbal communication skills. The Assistant Controller will work with the Controller and as well as other Senior Managers to generate internal financial reports for the company. This would include creating financial statements regarding cash flow, income, taxes, earnings, inventory, investments, and help with auditing processes.
Essential Functions- Serve as the liaison between departments to ensure a seamless workflow.
- Support various aspects of accounting management.
- Collaborate with the Accounting Department on Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Collections.
- Assist project managers and the project management team with project accounting and management to ensure accurate billing and job costing.
- Oversee purchasing and receiving to ensure proper job allocation, aiding finance in achieving precise job costing.
- Contribute to the development of internal controls and policies to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness in finance, project management, and project cost accounting.
- Manage journal entries, invoices, and account reconciliations for monthly and annual closings.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts for each project.
- Review project accounting information to identify and resolve discrepancies or imbalances.
- Maintain familiarity with various contract structures.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of bank and credit card reconciliations on a monthly basis.
- Monitor credit card expenses to ensure proper entry and allocation.
- Assist the Controller in preparing financial reports and other data for management.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Controller and Senior Management.
Required Education and Experience - Proven experience as a Financial Controller, managing accounting and finance operations for businesses with $30M+ revenue.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
- Minimum 10 years of accounting experience, including 5 years in a managerial role.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, with significant involvement in month-end close procedures; CPA is a plus but not required.
- Proficiency in Sage 100 software is preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build cross-functional relationships.
- Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving abilities.
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA) is an advantage.
