This role should provide effective leadership, process improvements, and help to build upon the business' high performing and entrepreneurial spirit. The Assistant Controller will serve as a partner to the Global Controller and provide best-in-class service to internal stakeholders. This role reports directly to the Global Controller and will contribute to the growth and financial future of the business. Job Description:
- Responsible for ensuring accuracy in reporting and data across all MerchSource GL accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems validating compliance with appropriate GAAP standards
- Work with Global Controller to coordinate year end audits, draft consolidated financial statements, review all balance sheet accounts and prepare schedules and analysis as required
- Drive month-end financial close process and review monthly account reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Understand, interpret and apply GAAP accounting standards to business transactions, including:
- Sales revenue recognition
- Inventory accounting including inventory valuation, slow moving and excess reserves and physical inventory
- Accounts receivable including sales dilution reserves
- Accounts payable
- Fixed assets
- Lease accounting (ASC 842)
- Oversee all sales/use/property tax filings
- Responsible for 401k audit and related filings
- Establish accounting policies, processes, procedures, and systems to ensure proper implementation and appropriate segregation of duties
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement change to increase efficiency, streamline workflow and controls
- Analyze and interpret financial data, recommend changes to improve systems and financial performance
- Maintain strong relationships with company management teams with the ability to explain complex financial issues clearly and concisely
- Effectively manage, develop, coach and mentor the accounting team including skills development, training and process improvement
- Prepare ad hoc analysis and reports or special projects as required
Experience & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required
- Certified Public Accountant. Technically sound in US GAAP
- Four to seven years' experiences with Big Four accounting firm with a strong record and background of audit and accounting issues
- Experience as an Assistant Controller for $200M+ complex global, consumer product experience company with strong record of accounting process documentation and improvement
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to think strategically, and a solution-based mentality
- Can quickly establish credibility and respect and build strong working relationships with department managers; demonstrates maturity and professionalism; acts as a role model and source of knowledge
