Cedars of Marin provides person-centered day programs and residential opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities that inspire them to live creative, productive, healthy and joyous lives. Cedars has been supporting adults with developmental disabilities for more than 100 years. As a part of the Cedars Food Service team you will work with the Manager of Food Services in our Residential program to provide three nutritious, delicious meals for 50 adults with developmental disabilities daily. Cooking experience is necessary. This work is creative, fulfilling and challenging. The work schedule is Friday - Tuesday, from 5:30 am - 12:30 pm, and Sunday from 5:30 am - 1:30 pm. The hourly rate of pay is $27.00As a Cedars Assistant Cook you will:
- Support the dignity, privacy, independence, choice, and individuality of residents.
- Use recipes and instructions provided to prepare food (e.g. sandwiches, salads, desserts, hot plates, beverages) using proper food handling, sanitation and safety procedures.
- Review food inventory and assist the Food Service Manager in inventorying and stocking food products and supplies.
- Be responsible for properly storing unused food after each meal and following procedures for disposal of outdated food.
- Be responsible for cleaning food prep areas and equipment according to a schedule and as requested by the Food Service Manager.
- Wash dishes and empty trash daily.
- Supervise the Cedars kitchen in the absence of the Food Service Manager.
- Maintain kitchen facilities in accordance with regulations (Title 17 & 22).
Requirements
- High School degree or equivalent.
- One year of cooking experience, preferably in a healthcare related industry.
- Willingness to teach, guide and work with adults with developmental disabilities.
- Ability to use email and computer.
- Must communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
- Food Handlers card, or the ability to obtain one is preferred.
- Ability to work autonomously. Weekend work is unsupervised.
- A clean California driver's license, a minimum of three years of driving, and a willingness to drive a passenger van.
- The ability to pass a pre-hire screening including background check with the FBI and DOJ, and a pre-employment physical, including TB test.
- CPR and First Aid certifications (or the willingness to acquire both).
- An upbeat, positive attitude and good sense of humor are very helpful!
