This allows maintaining water balance in chlorine, Ph, temperature and ORP. This position will need to learn complete operating parameters to read, monitor, adjust, and calibrate the controller with knowledge when a change is needed and consequences of not maintaining balanced water. GCSC hydrotherapy pool water chemistry is controlled by CAT 2000 controller. This allows maintaining water balance in chlorine, Ph, temperature and ORP. This position will need to learn complete operating parameters to read, monitor, adjust, and calibrate the controller with knowledge when a change is needed and consequences of not maintaining balanced water. Knowledge of a Palintest Photometer to measure water chemistry will be required to calibrate the Becsys 3 and CAT 2000 controllers daily. This requires understanding and knowledge of advanced pool chemistry testing procedures to include chlorine, Ph, alkalinity, and calcium hardness and the amount of chemical required to adjust as needed to maintain balanced water.Pool chemicals for both pools will only sustain the pool for 2 days until refill attention is required. This position will require advanced knowledge of caustic chemical safety procedures in handling chlorine, muriatic acid, calcium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium thiosulfate. The Pulsar chemical feed systems for both pools require advanced knowledge in operation, maintenance, and repair of the feed system.This position will also need advanced knowledge of backwash procedures for the filter systems of both pools.Basic boiler knowledge required to adjust heat for both pools to maintain proper temperatures for both pools. Examples of Duties
- Supervise afternoons, weeknights and some weekends. Secure the building at closing.
- Ensure a smooth transition of staff and students throughout the daily operations for both pools.
- Ensure staff training and proper procedures for daily chemical checks.
- Using the photometer, daily calibration of the chemical feed systems for both pools.
- Maintain a daily and weekly preventative maintenance schedule for both pools.
- Maintain open swim logs, chemical logs, and pool chemical supply logs.
- Develop a weekly schedule for staff and conduct in -service training.
- Train and certify/re-certify lifeguards and other appropriate personnel for weekday and weekend activities.
- Develop and maintain the work schedules and timesheets for part time staff.
- Close swimming area when unsafe swimming conditions occur. Activate EAP and emergency evacuation procedures.
- Administer first aid when necessary. Maintain stock of campus first aid kits.
- Assist students with the registration process for all Aquatic and Wellness classes.
- Serve as supervisor in charge in the absence of the Coordinator III, Wellness & Athletics, Natatorium.
- Perform all other duties as required.
Supervise part time Lifeguards and part time Aquatic Adjuncts. Typical QualificationsBS degree in recreation, physical education or related field from a regionally accredited College or University.The following certifications are required for this position:
Certified Pool & Spa Operator; required by the State of Florida Health Department for operation of all commercial swimming pool, chemical and mechanical operations.Lifeguard Training Instructor/First Aid & CPR Instructor; to provide current staff and potential staff, and community members with the skills, knowledge, and certifications to conduct safe operations of a swimming pool and manage all emergency situations.Water Safety Instructor; to teach basic through advanced swimming skills and aquatic knowledge to all community students and staff.Additional certifications;

Work is performed in a Natatorium which houses one indoor 190,000 gallon swimming pool, one indoor 6400 gallon therapy spa, 3 office spaces, two chemical and pump rooms, mechanical rooms, restroom and shower facilities, and an adjacent classroom. The noise level in the environment is minimal to moderate because of pool pumps. Special safety considerations must be applied due to pool chemicals.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Employee must be able to pick up and move chemical containers weighing up to fifty pounds or more either mechanically or with a dolly or other apparatus. Position also requires a moderate physical fitness level in order to teach and demonstrate associated safety skills and swimming skills for lifeguards and students. The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus as well as ability to determine the color of objects. This employee must have a good eye vision in order to identify potential life-threatening situations in and around the pool. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to perform activities which require hand and finger dexterity. The employee is regularly required to walk and reach with hands and arms.
