The Mission Statement of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church: To spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to all of God's people by word and action. Employment Status: Full-Time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly Schedule: 35 hrs. per week Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday 12:00PM to 8:00PM with an hour unpaid lunch. Hours may vary based on youth ministry needs, meetings, and office coverage Monday-Friday. Duties require regular evenings and weekend work, especially Sunday and Monday evenings depending on the time of year. Schedule will allow for at least one day off per week. Reports to: Priest Full-Time Benefits include: Paid Holidays/Holy Days (vary based on location) 403b Retirement 401 (a) Pension Plan Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Employee Assistance Program Short-term/Long-term Disability Summary: The parish youth ministry program is based on the USCCB document, Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry . The Youth Ministry Assistant should be a person who exhibits a strong Christian character that demonstrates a close relationship with God through personal devotion, worship, and prayer. He/she must have a solid understanding of the foundation of the Catholic faith with a strong desire to nurture young people in this faith. This person needs to work cooperatively with the Pastor, the Coordinator of Youth Ministry, and other members of the parish staff, while remaining docile to the Holy Spirit. Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Coordinator of Youth Ministry, responsible for evolving and implementing parish youth program curriculum. Assists the Coordinator to prepare a yearly calendar and budget for the program. Plans and coordinates Edge Nights for grades 6-8. Actively recruits adults and young adults as speakers, small group leaders, and meal team volunteers, and assists Coordinator with training of Core Members. Communicates with Safe Environment Coordinator to ensure all volunteers are in good standing and up-to-date on certification. Coordinates with meal team on Sunday nights by gathering parent volunteers and other community members to help cook and serve dinner for teens and organize cleanup. Acts to build and maintain quality relationships with parents by sharing the vision of the ministry, so they understand its purpose and direction. Assists Coordinator of Youth Ministry in retreat planning for middle (day retreats) and high school (Spring Retreat, Confirmation Workshops, Teen ACTS). Creates graphics to advertise and promote events on social media platforms (mainly Facebook and Instagram). Works alongside the Coordinator of Childrens Ministry on VBS by leading the teens who volunteer. Determine with the Coordinator which summer events to plan, advertise and attend each year (Steubenville, LTLC, Covecrest, SAN Mission Trip, Teen ACTS, VBS). Assist with planning and implementing XLT Adoration, Night of Mercy, and other prayerful experiences for youth and their families (about one per semester). Approve and log teens service hours during VBS and other service opportunities throughout the year. Work with Pastoral Office team by writing for the parish newsletter, The Winged Lion, to keep parishioners informed about the youth ministry program. Encourage the participation of youth in the liturgy, other church activities, and various ministries at St. Mark, such as collaborating with living stations of the cross leaders to recommend teens for roles in the annual production. Be aware of ministries that will ask for youth participation (e.g., Habitat for Humanity, Traveling Loaves and Fishes, Womens Guild, and Knights of Columbus), and help provide teen volunteers for various parish events, such as the Pumpkin Patch and Craft Fair. Request assistance from local businesses, and organize profit-share fundraisers for the youth program. Participate in different aspects of parish life, such as being present at the ministry fair, and serving as an EMHC for the Sunday, 5:00 p.m. Mass. Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Youth Ministry or Priest. Additional Responsibilities: Assists in ministry for young adults (e.g. 23-39 years of age, young professionals, post-college), including strategies for the development and implementation of the vision of this particular ministry. Developing, overseeing and forming strategies to implement Fr. Dennis and the young adult leadership teams vision for the young adult ministry. Organizing and running young adult gatherings, usually twice a month, which vary from spiritual formation to socials and service-oriented functions. Finding guest speakers for presentations and events, as well as preparation to lead meetings as well. Being the primary communicator for the young adult ministry by supporting members and those inquiring; managing the membership database, GroupMe e-mail list for promotions; and providing weekly bulletin and Winged Lion Newsletter articles as needed. Developing creative partnerships for service opportunities with parish ministries and other non-profit volunteer events in the larger community. Assists the Young Ministry coordinator in reviewing and meeting budget. Qualifications and Requirements: Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent certificate program, preferably in Youth Ministry, Theology, or related social sciences. Experience: One to three years of service in youth ministry, preferably in a parish or educational setting. Supports and adheres to the religious standards, policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Morals policy is mandatory. Must demonstrate ability of serving collaboratively with other members of the parish staff. Must be willing to communicate and coordinate with members of the parish community with whom one may interact. Adhere to established office hours, attend weekly team meetings and parish staff meetings. Must have good written and verbal skills. Strong organizational skills, and the ability to meet parish goals and deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate to various levels of office staff, ministry leaders, parishioners and guests. Ability to work in a team environment, fostering a positive work environment. Punctuality and reliability are a must, as well as respectful interaction with other staff, parishioners and guests. Must be proficient in word processing and use of Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and graphic design. Hired personnel will serve a 90-day evaluation and probationary period. Meet all Archdiocesan employment requirements. Provide proof of valid drivers license and insurance, and possess reliable transportation. Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual (English/Spanish) Physical Demands/ Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee may occasionally lift and or move up to 20 pounds. The noise level is low in the environment.
