Equality Charter School ( provides a high level of academic rigor in a nurturing learning community that will prepare scholars to be career-ready in college. Our holistic programming focuses on career exploration, extensive athletics, art, health, and a host of special days, like career day, and a borough-wide college fair, etc.This position was established for the purpose/s of effecting positive behavioral change in students; providing supportive interventions to families and/or students; and complying with school behavior intervention policies, regulations and/or procedures. He/she is responsible for coordinating student management programming and behavior intervention planning.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Assist with administration of programs and services for all students for the purpose of improved functioning and supporting a student's success in the classroom .
- Assists in developing interventions, functional behavior assessments and behavior plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.
- Assists in developing procedures and training materials for school staff involved with students with challenging behaviors for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established guidelines.
- Assists with workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with behaviorally or emotionally challenged students.
- Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
- Assist in supervision for students who are assigned to the Out of School suspension tutoring and In-School Suspension. Work with students and or other staff members during student reflection period on issues such as behavior management and the prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in student being assigned to ISS. Monitor all OSS and ISS assignments; provide encouragement and feedback to students, monitor tests, computer work and provide instructional assistance as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate has a high capacity for problem solving, a demonstrated ability to manage numerous tasks and competing demands, and communication skills that fosters collaborating with numerous stakeholders both within and outside of the school.
- Experience in working with middle school-aged children. Must be able to handle and react to potential volatile situations and take appropriate action.
- Tutoring or other instructional experience
- Basic proficiency in Google Suite including but not limited to Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Classroom, etc.
