Assistant Director at West or Capital High SchoolMadison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison's public recreation provider.MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses. As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center.Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!During the school year, MSCR offers Afterschool and Enrichment Programs at 15 MMSD Schools. Many of these sites have been awarded Community Learning Center (CLC) grants through the Federal Government. These programs offer curriculum to help support the students who need extra support in math and/or literacy.Program Description: MSCR offers a variety of recreational and academic afterschool programs for high school participants.These include homework help, extramural sports, art/crafts, book clubs, gaming, and others.Programs are drop in - students choose to attend what they're interested in.Job Description & Duties: Assist High School Specialist with supervision of afterschool programs.Duties include planning and facilitating programming, behavior management, tutoring, data entry, and program promotion. Start Date: As soon as filled.Program Dates: September 2024 - June 2025.Work Location: West High School or Capital High School.Hours/week: 18-20 hours per week. Work hours: Monday-Thursday afternoons, some Saturday mornings and possibly some evenings for trips.Application Deadline:Open until filled.Payrate: 16.00 - 16.00 /hourMinimum Qualifications:
  • Previous administrative and/or youth work experience.
  • Ability to connect with high school participants.
  • Ability to supervise students and maintain safe environment during recreational and academic programs.
  • Professional communication and consistent work attendance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience successfully leading activities with high school students.
  • Experience with administrative tasks including data entry and reporting.
  • Interest and experience doing arts/crafts activities with kids/teens.
  • Bilingual - Spanish/Hmong/other.
