Job Description:
Principal Responsibilities:Summary: The Assistant Director, Day Camp supports the administration of the day camp program. These responsibilities include program development and implementation, marketing and recruitment, hiring, development and supervision of staff, site management, financial management. This position supervises seasonal staff in the Day Camp. The Assistant Director, Day Camp is the site director of Anisfield Day Camp at Halle Park in Geauga County. Expectations of Employees:

  • Represent the agency and provide the highest quality of customer service to the individuals and groups with whom you come into contact.

  • Wear Mandel JCC Staff ID badge, dress professionally for the position and attend all appropriate staff meetings.
  • In partnership with the Director, Children and Day Camps and the Chief Human Resources Officer, recruit, on-board, and develop staff at all levels to meet highest standards of performance, and assume additional responsibilities as appropriate.
  • In partnership with the J Day Camp senior leadership team ensure accuracy in the bi-weekly summer payroll.
  • Supervise all Halle Park Supervisors, Specialists and Counselors.
  • Works with the Director, Children and Day Camps and the Sr. Director Marketing and Communications to develop effective, calendared marketing and branding strategies that support recruitment and retention strategies for year round programming.
  • Works with the Director, Children and Day Camps to actively engage and manage the staff recruitment through various recruitment strategies including social media, job fairs, relationships with high school guidance teams, international Schlichim program and more.
  • Assist in the Cleveland community to meet with potential program participants, parents, and partners in order to build and expand the businesses of Day Camps and Children's Services.
  • Assist in developing year round programs to provide continuous engagement for youth and their families to remain connected to camp and The J.
  • Work with J Day Camp leadership team to create a diverse, engaging, and all-encompassing training program for year round as well as summer staff.Ensure all hired staff that come on beyond staff development week receive training prior to work commencing.
  • Review camper files in coordination with Camper Care Supervisor for the purpose of assessing and anticipating camper needs.
  • Provide ongoing guidance and support to campers and/or staff as it relates to behavioral, emotional and mental health needs including: camper adjustment issues, separation anxieties, bullying, teasing, moments of sadness or other mental health concerns.
  • Properly documents all camper care issues and relevant communications with staff and parents.
  • Consult with parents to provide updates and problem solve any challenges in situations where behavior issues arise.
  • Ensures development and implementation of innovative and meaningful programming for J Day Camp.
  • Responsible for staying within the approved budget when developing and implementing programming.
  • In coordination with Director, Children and Day Camping services maintain and update parent handbook, emergency action plan and all online forms and documents.
  • Ensures all financial activities meet the guidelines established by the Mandel JCC Fiscal department.
  • Works closely with Director, Children and Day Camping Services to monitors revenues and expenses to ensure financial goals are achieved.
  • Manages all vendor relationships as assigned, in coordination with Program Director.
  • Develop strong knowledge of CampMinder in order to maintain and administrate the database effectively and efficiently.
  • Coordinates and provides daily management of all systems and procedures of registration and camp administration (paperwork, parent communication, carpool, shuttle, registration, payment systems, etc.)
  • Assists with the ACA Accreditation process as needed.
  • Advises Mandel JCC management of any significant issues regarding physical plant and changes or additions that are required to attract and retain participants at Halle Park.
  • Works closely with Halle Park Maintenance Supervisor to insure physical plant is safe and clean throughout the summer.
  • Supervise J Day Camp Aquatics Director, ensuring that all safety requirements are met at the lake and at the pool and that swim lessons are appropriately implemented with weekly communication to parents on individual camper's swim progress.
  • Oversee all camp site opening and closing tasks.Ensure all supplies and equipment are stored properly and maintained throughout the year.
  • Work closely with Mandel JCC Director of Security and Halle Park Security Guards to ensure the highest level of safety and security at Halle Park.
  • Prioritizing the safety and security of all staff and participants
  • Assess and report any concerns
  • Submit all incident reports within 24 hours
  • Work with Director, Children and Day Camping Services and Director of Security on all safety plans.
  • In collaboration with the J Day Camp leadership team develops appropriate contingency plans for unexpected emergencies including not limited to AQI, health both physical and mental, weather etc.
  • Ensures EVAC plan reviewed and updated annually.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Social Work, Recreation Sciences, or a related field.
  • One to three years of management/supervisory experience and camp leadership experience or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Jewish culture, heritage, and traditions.
  • Proven experience in customer service management and quality service delivery.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends, flexible scheduling depending on departmental needs.
  • Demonstrate good character and integrity.
  • Must have enthusiasm, be adaptable, and possess an excellent work ethic.
  • Self-directed with ability to accept guidance.
  • Must present a professional image and have excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop and sustain a team approach to program and service development.
  • Effectively communicate with staff, children, and parents.
  • Have the ability to make sound judgments and decisions in a calm manner.
  • Demonstrates good critical and creative thinking skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of policies, procedures, activities, and programs as they relate to day camping, adventure-based programming, outdoor adventure, leadership development, and community events.
