POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Early Childhood Development Center Director, the Early Childhood Development Center Assistant Director assists in overseeing the overall program development and promotion, leadership, and supervision of the ECDC staff as well as assist in the planning, development, and implementation of all child care curriculum and program features in a safe, nurturing, and positive environment. He or she will assist the ECDC Director in staff selection and development, creating a vision for the future, and working closely with others to increase participation and overall growth in the program while maintaining accountability for the department budget. The Assistant Director is an integral part of the branch team of professional leaders and will work closely with the Branch Director to ensure the continuity of a strong community reputation for the program.OUR CULTURE:Our mission and core values are brought to life by our culture. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Manage and administer the ECDC program through the overall development, growth, leadership, and supervision of the ECDC facility and staff. Maintain high customer service and satisfaction with participants in ECDC programs and events.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Assists in managing the budgets related to the position. Ensures the program operates within budget and that program fees are collected.
  • Provide a safe, nurturing, and positive environment for all participants in the infant through five-year-old age groups.
  • Supervise staff in the planning, developing, and implementing all child development center curriculum and program features.
  • Lead and coach the Lead Teacher(s) on ECDC programming and administration of ECDC activities.
  • Successfully train staff in the use of positive discipline and guidance techniques
  • Supervise staff members to contribute to each child's physical, intellectual, personal, emotional and social development.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Coordinate scholarship, CHASI & DCFS requests.
  • Monitor all incident and accident reports and make sure all required follow-up is complete.
  • Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality. Act as the administrator and ensure that ECDC is fulfilling the requirements for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
  • Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program and DCFS standards are met and safety procedures followed. Oversee and complete state licensing certification requirements in and meet with DCFS representatives as needed.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, and parent inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Complete continuing educational requirements and required YMCA trainings according to Edwardsville YMCA employee policy. Enroll in the Illinois Gateway to Opportunity Registry
  • Provides staff leadership for annual fund raising campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Assists with Program Committee meetings as assigned.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.

Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.QUALIFICATIONS:1. Illinois state licensing requires that the ECDC Director must be at least 21 and have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED) and
    • Sixty semester or 90 quarter hours of credit from an accredited college or university with 18 semester or 27 quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development from birth to age 6; and
    • Two years (3120 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed Childcare Center, 30 semester or 45 quarter hours of college credits with ten semester or 15 quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, and proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university until two years of college credit have been achieved. A total of 18 semester or 27 quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development is required to be obtained within the total two years of college credits; or
    • Completion of a credentialing program approved in accordance with Appendix G of the Illinois State Licensing Standards, completion of 12 semester or 18 quarter hours in courses related to child care and/or child development from birth to age 6 at an accredited college or university, and 2 years (3120 clock hours) child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten or licensed Childcare Center.
    2. The ECDC Assistant Director must successfully complete a basic training course of 6 or more clock hours on providing care to children with disabilities that has been approved by the Department. The Childcare Center shall have on file a certificate attesting to the training of the child care director.3. Prior work experience as Day Care Director or Assistant Director strongly preferred.4. Proven successful employment history working with children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old5. Strong skills and established work history in staff supervision, fiscal management and program development, such as health and wellness, and/or early childhood development.6. Excellent writing, communication and computer skills.
