Job Title: Assistant Director Food Services

Reports to: Senior Director of Member Services

Supervises: Program Managers, Direct Staff

Status: Exempt (Salary), Full-Time, Management

Location: Cloverfield, 1751 Cloverfield, Santa Monica, CA 90404

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00am-2:30pm

SUMMARY

The Food Services Assistant Director oversees the operation of the agency's Food Services Department, supervises kitchen managers, assists with cooking, delivery, and serving of meals to multiple Agency locations where that food is served by Food Services staff. As part of the management team and an exempt employee, the Food Services Assistant Director must be available to work a schedule that includes, but is not necessarily limited to, all three meal services, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for making sure that all kitchens are following federal, state, and county regulatory requirements.
  • Reviews, assists with planning menus, and oversees execution of these in all agency's kitchens.
  • Exhibits leadership and sets an example as part of the Food Services Management Staff in constantly striving to provide a healthier, more diverse, fresher, and higher quality Food Services experience for our member clients.
  • Forecasts, plans, and coordinates the purchase of food, supplies, appliances, and equipment.
  • Coordinates and schedules maintenance and repairs of all kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Continuously develops and operationally/administratively maintains and expands food supply resources through agencies like, but not limited to, food banks, farmers markets, local businesses, and volunteer groups, etc. in coordination with The People Concern Development Department.
  • Maintains records related to kitchen services and inspections like, but not limited to, the Health Department, hood cleaning, annual/fire extinguisher service, oven calibration, pest control, etc.
  • Participates in hiring, training, leading, scheduling, and motivating assigned staff. Demonstrates a clear and decisive approach in disciplining assigned staff in compliance with all legal and agency regulations when necessary.
  • Effectively represents The People Concern Management Team to all other staff of The People Concern in dealing with conflicts related to Food Services through effective use of de-escalation techniques and general respect for all clients.
  • Ensures adherence to all partner agencies and other funding source contracts and performance standards, along with all relevant laws, regulations, and agency policies and procedures.
  • Ensures kitchens are maintained for the health and safety of staff and participants.
  • Provides budgetary oversight of the Department budget and ensures expenses are within the adopted annual budget.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable building and safety codes, OSHA, Health Department, etc.
  • Responsible for managing the agency's California Food Handler's certificate program.
  • Responsible for the oversight and negotiation of food catering contracts for existing and new sites.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of five years full-time experience managing large food operations in multiple locations.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Current, valid California Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of local, state, health sanitation and safety codes.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to learn quickly and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and with minimal supervision.
  • Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer to perform essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Manager's Level Certificate from ServeSafe or other approved certification agency.
  • Undergraduate degree preferred.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Mostly kitchen environment.
  • Will necessitate working in busy and loud environments.
  • Will be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise, and odor.
  • Will need frequently to stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less.
