Job Description:
The Midwest Conference (MWC), an NCAA DIII conference of nine institutions, located in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin, invites qualified candidates to apply for the part-time position of Assistant Director for Sport Communications. The successful candidate will excel at working in an environment that respects and upholds the diversity of, strives to provide equity of services to, and celebrates the academic and athletic achievements of its membership. The Assistant Director for Athletic Communications will create content for the league's website and social media channels that vibrantly captures the regular and postseason of its 18 varsity sports. This is an excellent early career opportunity in intercollegiate athletic communications, providing space to showcase sport writing, social media engagement and reliability, accuracy and timeliness of work. Summary:
  • Assistant Director for Communications reports directly to the Associate Executive Director
  • Part-time, $20-22 per hour, 18-22 hours/week, no benefits
  • Position requires night and weekend work
  • Primary remote; however, the candidate shall reside within the geographic footprint of the league and be available to attend occasional in-person staff meetings in Grinnell, Iowa
Responsibilities:
  • Produce original content pre-season polls, weekly news releases, and tournament/championship previews and recaps - delivering them quickly in a professional manner.
  • Maintain an up-to-date website, ensuring quality and accuracy of content, including statistics, schedules, awards and tournament/championship landing pages.
  • Administer the MWC Performer of the Week program and related publicity.
  • Maintain league record books and statistical archives.
Qualifications : A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of two years experience in collegiate sports communications (or related field) inclusive of website content management. Exceptional writing, editing, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to balance multiple responsibilities under pressure, with tight deadlines and minimal direct supervision. Familiarity with Division III philosophy for intercollegiate athletics. Proficiency with the following is required:
  • Athletic website content management software (preferably, SideArm and/or Presto);
  • Statistical software (NCAA LiveStats, Presto Stats, StatCrew, etc.);
  • Google Suite;
  • Adobe (Photoshop, InDesign), Canva and Zoom; and,
  • Social media platforms including, but not limited to: Instagram, X, YouTube.
Contract Term and Start Date: This is a 9-month appointment with a preferred start date of October 1, 2024, and end date of June 30, 2024.
