Gretchen's House currently serve more than 500 families at locations in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Houghton, and Marquette, MI. We partner with HighScope to create a play based, child-directed, and hands-on learning environment. Leadership & Programming
  • Model appropriate behavior and expectations
  • Supervise all classrooms in the program on an on-going basis
  • Observe and evaluate programs
  • Act as a resource for Teachers
  • Provide in-service training and workshops as needed for staff development
  • Monitor communications between teachers and families
  • Assist teachers with formal family-teacher conferences
  • Confers with families who express a complaint or concerns verbally or in writing
  • Meets with any family whose child is having trouble or whose child is identified for intervention (behavioral, medical, educational or psychological)
  • Appropriately supervises, trains and evaluates staff, volunteers and students
  • Evaluate and meet with staff as appropriate (1-mo, 6-mo, annual, as needed)
  • Plans for and communicates community outreach projects
  • Plans for and communicates scheduling and staffing needs
  • Orient substitutes
  • Supervise volunteers and workers referred by community agencies
  • Conveys information between the administration and classroom
  • Communicates classroom repair and maintenance needs
  • Maintains communication with families through the 'hot spot', newsletters, conferences, reports and personal contact
  • Maintains inventory of classroom supplies and coordinates the purchase of supplies and equipment within budget guidelines
  • Maintains appropriate records and paperwork for children, staff and classroom, including attendance records for staff and children
  • Document and communicate staff absences (vacation and sick time); monitor requests for leave request; keep track of hours available
  • Responsible for all aspects of the classroom environment, including appropriate guidance, curriculum and overall atmosphere
RequirementsRequirements
  • BA or MA in early childhood education, child development or closely related field.
  • Personnel File is up to date
  • CPR/First Aid
  • Current TB Test

  • Appropriate Attendance
  • Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children, co-workers and families
  • Sensitive to the individual needs of families
  • Ability to communicate with families effectively
