  • The Assistant Director of Learning Support will assist with designing, developing, overseeing, and administrating Learning Support activities in the Office of Student Affairs.
  • Directs the work of the Learning Support Services Specialist when needed, working collaboratively and assuming duties when required.
  • Creates and facilitates workshops to enhance student academics grounded in evidence-based learning theory.
  • Organizes and implements the delivery of Learning Support workshops, panels, and seminars.
  • Evaluates the Learning Support programming schedule each year; adjust as needed.
  • Oversees the Learning Support Student Advisory Council; schedules meetings; records meeting minutes; follows up on student initiatives when appropriate; integrates student feedback into learning support programming.
  • Provides specialized educational counseling services to CMSRU students; makes referrals to appropriate counseling agencies when required.
  • Conducts individual meetings with students to discuss diagnostic testing, academic needs, and learning preferences; meets with students to create and monitor proactive plans for ongoing academic success.
  • Develops academic intervention and remediation strategies for at-risk students, assessing barriers to academic success when appropriate.
  • Teaches students to develop effective learning strategies, self-directed learning skills, and effective study habits that promote academic success.
  • Administers learning assessment tools (e.g., LASSI); analyzes and interprets data to make student recommendations.
  • Works with faculty and course directors to develop strategies to enhance student learning and respond to students with academic difficulties.
  • Monitors student preparation for UMSLE Step 1.
  • Manages Learning Support programs for USMLE preparation; develops and facilitates student workshops and seminars.
  • Works with students to develop personalized USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 preparation plans and schedules.
  • Provide specialized counseling to students regarding USMLE exams congruent with CMSRU policies and procedures.
  • Manages the Peer Tutoring Program, including recruiting and training tutors, reviewing tutor applications, monitoring peer tutors' work, staffing and scheduling drop-in tutoring sessions, and identifying topics for drop-in tutoring sessions.
  • Assist in implementing Accudemia Student Retention Software; design and deliver training appropriate for peer tutors and students.
  • Collaborate with Student Support Services Specialists and the Wellness Program Specialist to design, implement, and deliver programming that promotes holistic student wellness consistent with AAMC standards.
  • Meet regularly with Phase Deans, Course Directors, and Faculty to assist and support students' learning needs.
  • Manages and implements the Proactive Advising for Student Support (PASS) early alert program to identify at-risk students with Student Support Services Specialists.
  • Creates and delivers presentations at M1 and M2 orientation.
  • Attends M1 CARES meetings with Student Support Services Specialists.
  • Provides advisory services to OSA leadership, faculty, and staff in working with students to enhance student academic success.
  • Participates in appropriate professional development meetings and presentations; remains current with the literature on medical education, learning science, and academic advising.
  • Reviews literature in the field of academic support to maintain current support programs.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of student encounters.
  • Support faculty development activities.
  • Prepares data and reports for the Office of Student Affairs; reviews outside resources that support medical education.
Required Qualifications:
  • MA, MS, MSW, or MEd in education, counseling, psychology, social work, or closely related fields.
  • Three years of professional experience in a support role in a medical school setting or the field of higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with others and maintain collegiality.
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously with minimal direction.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and learning management systems (Canvas).
  • Strong organizational management, social, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written communication.
  • Commitment to diversity, personal mentorship, professionalism, collaboration, mutual respect, and student advocacy.
  • Knowledge of academic success skills, including but not limited to learning preferences, test-taking skills, goal setting, and time management.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education, counseling, psychology, social work, or closely related fields.
  • Five years of professional experience in a support role in a medical school setting or the field of higher education.
  • Experience working with students needing academic support, accommodations, and/or having academic difficulty.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of academic accommodations.
  • Experience with USMLE Step 1 and 2 examinations.
  • Working knowledge of learning science, active learning strategies, and educational psychology.

Work hours are typically between 8 AM and 5 PM, with evening or weekend hours flexibility based on department needs.NOTES:
