POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Synthesize scientific/technical information/data of early-stage inventions to understand the commercial potential and articulate the value proposition and commercial impact to potential commercialization partners, including entrepreneurs and investment groups Evaluate Einstein technologies for their commercial/licensing/economic development potential: The incumbent will be expected to combine an understanding of patent law, science/technology, and commercial development with some industry and market experience and financial acumen Source and evaluate potential commercial partners for Einstein intellectual property assets, including start-up and other investment opportunities Draft and negotiate license terms, options, exclusive license agreements and collaborative agreements, including equity documents and other shareholder agreements Diligently shepherd agreements through the negotiation and execution phases, by capturing discussions and intent in written agreements and effectively communicating status updates to investigators and upper management, as needed, on a timely basis Demonstrate ability to lead negotiations in exclusive license agreements and agreements with start-ups involving equity and shareholder rights agreements Solicit and assess new inventions for intellectual property protection and commercialization Understand Einstein/Montefiore scientific assets from various scientific disciplines and confidently interact with faculty/researchers/clinicians. Establish an understanding of Einstein faculty research interests and achievements and communicate and promote the information for commercial opportunities, with the ability to prioritize based on expected return on investment. Develop and execute innovative strategies for the development/commercialization of technologies and actively market technologies to third parties: For any given technology the incumbent would be expected to develop and implement a marketing strategy. Leverage and establish new relationships with industry/pharma/drug development/regulatory professionals to engage with Office and provide critical feedback and insights into Einstein IP assets to prime them for commercialization, bringing in contacts from your experience to help as well. Identify potential projects for internal investment The Assistant Director is expected to support general Office business development, contribute to the overall licensing plans of the Office with the potential to manage junior licensing professions, as required Prepare materials for the Office's participation at external events and for internal seminars and represent the Office

QUALIFICATIONS

* Masters or Ph.D. degree in the life sciences, and 7+ years experience in academic (technology transfer) and/or commercial biotech/pharma arenas.

* Experience in contract negotiations a must.

* Knowledge of intellectual property law and an understanding of biomedical research and technology transfer practices. Experience with the drug development process and/or FDA regulations and/or start-up companies and/or medical mobile applications is a plus

* History of successful negotiations and execution of complex deals regarding intellectual property assets with ability to provide deal sheet.

* Understanding of corporate & securities agreements preferred

* Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) in a clear and concise manner

* Strong time-management and organizational skills.

* Ability to understand and evaluate early-stage science

* Working independently and collaboratively

* Ability to manage long-term relationships with business partners and faculty-inventors and make strategic connections to facilitate technology transfer opportunities

* Proficient in MS Office Suite with strong focus on MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

* Occasional travel may be required

Minimum Salary Range

USD $153,000.00/Yr.

Maximum Salary Range

USD $165,000.00/Yr.

About Us

Einstein's Office of Biotechnology and Business Development is looking to recruit an Assistant Director, Licensing and Business Development to strengthen the Office's revenue-driving operations.

The main purpose of this position is to expand Einstein's licensing and collaborative relationships with commercialization partners (industry, entrepreneurs, investors). The incumbent is expected to manage a portfolio of life science, biotech and healthcare technologies across the full-life cycle. The Assistant Director will identify novel intellectual property assets developed at Einstein, solicit new invention disclosures, evaluate technologies for commercial potential, participate in the development of commercial strategies, identify/assess licensees, draft license terms (financial and non-financial), negotiate, execute, and manage license agreements, inclusive of equity-bearing licensing relationships.

The ideal candidate will understand early-stage product development, be able to manage and prioritize a portfolio of projects under time/resource constraints, concisely communicate in oral and written forms, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders and clients that lead to win-win outcomes.
