Scope of Responsibilities

The Assistant Director for New Student and Family Programs (NSFP) is a member of an engaging and dynamic team that supports the onboarding of new-to-Duke students and helps to create a community of inclusion and belonging. In this role, the Assistant Director provides management to Experiential Orientation programs, supports the year-long efforts to welcome new-to-Duke students, and works across the campus to build partnerships to support new students. This position also oversees and administers office communications for the Office of New Student and Family Programs including newsletters, webinars, the virtual Blue Book, and social media campaigns for incoming students.

Duties

ADVISEMENT: 35%

* Advise up to 6 Experiential Orientation projects, including guiding student leaders in the design, implementation, and execution of Orientation Week.

* Advise the student marketing and communications subcommittee for Experiential Orientation.

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: 30%

* Chair the New Student Communicators Committee.

* Organize and edit content for the Virtual Blue Book for incoming first-year and transfer students.

* Collaboratively design, edit, and publish materials distributed to university community (incoming students, parents, alumni, and local and national media) including the Summer Transition Series, the Parent and Family Newsletter, and the Family Webinar series.

* Serve as a liaison to other campus departments, including University Admissions and University Communications and Marketing.

PROGRAM PLANNING: 15%

* Create social media plan to onboard new-to-Duke students and amplify New Student and Family Programs and University initiatives.

* Implement and educate key constituencies on online web collaborations that support incoming students.

CONSTITUENT OUTREACH 15%

* Work with campus partners to develop key content needed to orient new-to-Duke students to campus resources and climate.

* Design and conduct training sessions for students, faculty, and staff as related to the matriculation process for new students.

* Represent the New Student and Family Programs office on select departmental and divisional committees as well as at national conferences and professional meetings.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 5%

* The Office of New Student and Family Programs is a hub of innovation and serves as an essential office within QuadEx. As such, there may be other opportunities to support Duke's campuswide commitment to belonging, engagement, and well-being.

Preferred Qualifications:

Background in advising/counseling students and experience in marketing and communications are highly preferred.

* Skills relevant to establishing and maintaining successful partnerships with students/families, alumni, parents, faculty/staff, administration, members of the community, and other stakeholders.

* Preference for a candidate with a background in social media, writing, graphic design, and/or communications strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work generally requires two years experience in personnel, college or OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE university administration, or a related field to acquire skills necessary to provide program management, advising and general administrative support.
