Title: Assistant Director of Admission

Department: Office of Admission

Reports To: Assistant Vice President for Admission and Financial Aid.

Internal Contacts: Offices of the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Life, Residence Life, ESL, and International Student Services; Department Chairs and members of Faculty

External Contacts: Prospective students and their families, applicants, affiliated Schools of Music, New York City ensembles related to MSM faculty, high school guidance counselors and music education staff

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Salary Range: $63,000 - $65,000

Position Summary

Manhattan School of Music (MSM) seeks a dynamic admission professional who will communicate the value of an MSM education to prospective students, families, and influencers and guide applicants from the point of contact to enrollment. This position is involved in all phases of the admission process, including representing MSM at in-person & virtual events, managing the completion and review of applicant files, facilitating auditions, and working with faculty to identify and yield students. We are looking for a creative and tech-savvy candidate, who is passionate about music & education and who excels at person-to-person communication and office administration.

Domains

Counseling/Recruiting:

* Counsel prospective students, applicants, and families on admission-related topics, interacting in-person and virtually.

* Work collaboratively with other members of the Admission team and partner offices to meet enrolment goals.

* Respond to emails and phone calls from prospective applicants, their families, and colleagues in a positive, timely, and professional manner.

* Represent the institution at in-person and virtual college fairs and other related music events.

* Travel to recruit for MSM; meet lead generation targets in assigned regions, primarily during September and October, based on thorough research and scheduled visits made prior to travel season.

* Present engaging information sessions for daily tour groups and virtual visits.

* Coordinate with faculty and Department Chairs in recruiting initiatives.

* Contribute to digital recruitment and social media campaigns.

Admission Liaison for Assigned Departments:

* Manage and review a caseload of applicants assigned by artistic discipline and other criteria.

* Develop understanding of nuanced departmental goals within the context of the institution as well as the United States and global classical music, jazz, and musical theatre communities.

* Coordinate with faculty and chair of assigned areas in a variety of enrollment matters, including auditions, progress to targets, and studio assignments.

* Use Slate by Technolutions to effectively manage the application process and report on caseload areas and territories.

* Review applicant files per assigned targets and deadlines.

* Present holistic applicant summaries in Admission and Scholarship Committee meetings.

* Provide regular, well-informed updates regarding caseload areas to members of the Admission team and other partner offices throughout the year.

* Coordinate the release of prescreening and admission decisions for caseload.

* Maintain admitted student engagement from admission through the point of matriculation.

* Perform projects and other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

* May be required to work on weekends or after 5pm on weekdays during peak admission seasons.

Job Requirements

* Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred

* Background in college admission (music admission experience preferred) and/or arts or education administration

* Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, required. Previous experience with Slate by Technolutions or databases and CRMs preferred

* Knowledge of and passion for classical music, jazz, and/or musical theatre

* Ability to work empathetically, patiently and supportively with applicants, teaching artists, and members of the public

* Professional interpersonal communication skills, a positive attitude and friendly demeanor, and a commitment to maintaining a positive working environment

* Strong organization and time management skills with an eye for detail

* Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

* Experience working with international students
