The School of Nursing has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director of Advising, Student and Academic Services to join their team.
POSITION COMPLEXITIESDirect student services for approximately 600 students across multiple degree programs and certificate offerings. Provide direct front-line advising for students enrolled in the School's PhD program. This position requires knowledge of the University of Washington School of Nursing degree programs and tracks, University of Washington registration and administrative systems, graduation requirements, and best practices for student services.
POSITION DIMENSIONS AND IMPACT TO THE UNIVERSITYThe Student and Academic Services office is critical to the University and School missions. Accurate knowledge of University and School policies is required; advising mistakes and misinterpreting policies and standards pose a risk to the school and the university.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Student Services:Develop, implement, evaluate, and improve a student services model across all nursing degree programs by setting policies and practices around student advising, school-level administrative policies, graduation requirements, satisfactory student progress, and faculty support and advising related to student interactions and curriculum.
In partnership with the Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ADDEI), and the Director of Admissions and Student Diversity, co-lead efforts to increase access to services focused on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion for nursing students.
Faculty and Administrative Support:Serve as a designated liaison between the School of Nursing administration, faculty, students, Graduate School, University Registrar, and Professional and Continuing Education (PCE).
Student and Academic Services Support:Support and consult regularly with the Director of Student and Academic Services and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Serve as primary office lead during absences and vacations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS• Bachelor's Degree in any field of study and four years of work experience in advising, student services, or higher education• Familiarity with student services best practicesEquivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS• Master's Degree in Education or Student Services• Thorough knowledge and understanding of Undergraduate and Graduate University and School policies and requirements.• Familiarity with UW data systems: Salesforce, SDB, EARS, MyGrad, MyPlan, DARS, and Data Warehouse.• Knowledge of Excel, Access, and Microsoft Office.
