Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Social JusticeVSC UP BARGAINING UNIT; GRADE 13; EXEMPTBASIC FUNCTION Oversee educational initiatives, training, programming, communication, and assessment for the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Chief Diversity Officer to develop and implement a plan to provide educational initiatives and programming.
- Curate educational and training DEISJ resources for the University community.
- Collaborate with the office of Institutional Research and Planning to design, administer, analyze, and report on periodic campus climate surveys.
- Support university and departmental level DEISJ assessments, based on best practices in higher education.
- Collaborate with other institutional departments to incorporate DEISJ initiatives into existing programming, such as RA training programs, orientation, faculty orientation, and the like.
- Coordinate DEISJ communications and the maintenance of a DEISJ microsite with the Communications department.
- Collaborate with other divisions to share data analysis and reports and support DEISJ initiatives and university goals.
- Serve on university-wide committees as requested, including the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Advisory Council.
- Collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning Innovation to offer specialized faculty training and to support faculty to integrate DEISJ into their curriculum.
- Support programming initiatives related to social justice observances, including months, celebrations, etc. (i.e. Black History Month, Women's History Month).
- Support affinity groups for faculty, staff, and students.
- Provide administrative support to the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice as needed.
- Keep abreast of current developments in the field. Participate in various regional and national professional groups and organizations.
- Assist in writing proposals for grant/external funding for DEISJ efforts.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED Direct supervision received from the Chief Diversity Officer. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY Supervision of up to three student workers. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline plus a minimum of four years of relevant experience, or a similar combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in an appropriate discipline. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Knowledge:
- Understanding of the mission, vision, and values of Vermont State University with special attention to accessibility and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Knowledge of the importance of DEISJ work in higher education.
- Understanding of the need to receive ongoing education and training around DEISJ issues.
- Knowledge of the complex landscape surrounding free speech on college campuses.
- Knowledge of, and a willingness to engage in ongoing education around the challenges faced by minoritized communities on college campuses.
- Understanding of the interpersonal, cultural, and legal challenges to conducting diversity work in higher education.
- Knowledge and/or willingness to learn accessibility best practices for communications and providing educational resources.
- Knowledge of how to review and report out on data collected via surveys.
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with (or ability to learn) technologies in the Microsoft Suite, including Sway, Excel, Outlook, and Sharepoint.
- Experience designing and updating websites (such as WordPress) and web-based resources.
- Experience using Canvas or other learning management system.
- Proven record of accountability and follow-through with the ability to meet deadlines.
