Description

This is an on-site faculty position within library administration.

The person in this position is directly responsible for planning and supervising all aspects of the Louisiana State University Health Shreveport Library's electronic resources and print collections. This person negotiates contracts and licenses with vendors and handles access problems with vendor representatives. The person in this position also supervises one full-time staff and one transient. Those positions cover the areas of serials, cataloging, metadata creation and electronic resource access.

This person must have good management, communication, and organizational skills, as well as a strong ability to think critically. A high level of technical computer skills is also required. This person must be able to work independently and to establish priorities for the on-going work of the library. This position is supervised directly by the Executive Director of the LSUHS Library.

Regular attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.

Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur that customer satisfaction is met at all times.

Essential Position Functions & Duties

70% Electronic Resource and Collection Management

* Acquires materials appropriate for maintaining electronic resources and collections to support the mission of the Schools of Allied Health Professions, Graduate Studies, and the Medical School; includes pre-order verification, ordering, receiving, payment, and claiming processes.

* Monitors the materials budget and maintains the necessary financial records and statistics.

* Summarizes relevant data to write reports for library administration, accreditation documents, or other special projects.

* Maintains financial records for other Library accounts.

* To ensure ease of access for students, faculty and staff, maintains order records and serial bibliographic records in the III Sierra and TDNet.

* Collaborates with Library Liaisons to evaluate the Library collection for currency and relevance to the academic programs of the institution.

* Researches publication and pricing information upon request for Library Liaisons and Library patrons.

* Supervises work flow of employees doing cataloging, working with metadata, and managing electronic resource access.

15% Faculty Duties

* Serves as a liaison to assigned departments or programs, consistent with established library liaison program guidelines

* Joins and/or participates in professional associations which support library and information science, education or health care

* Conducts occasional research and publishes results in the library and information science, education or health care literature or presents results at professional association meetings

* Writes book reviews, editorials, book chapters or other non-research publications

* Participates in relevant continuing education opportunities, which may be offered in various locations and through different modalities, as well as by a variety of sponsors

* Occasionally pursues relevant grant, scholarship, and funding opportunities

10% Administrative and Management

* Supervises work flow of Electronic Services Assistant doing cataloging, working with metadata, maintaining archives and the History of Medicine collection, and creating exhibits

* To ensure ease of access to resources for students, faculty and staff, maintains order records and serial bibliographic records in integrated library and discovery systems.

* Organizes and attends monthly Library leadership meeting and meets as necessary with Electronic Services Assistant.

* Implements Library policies as needed for electronic resources and print collection.

Non-Essential Position Functions & Duties

5% Marginal Functions (5%)

Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

The applicant must meet the following qualifications:

* Master's level degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited school of Library and/or Information Science with at least four (4) years of post-graduate experience in a library setting.

* Experience with library budgeting and accounting practices and experience with an online acquisitions system.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in an administrative or supervisory level position

* Experience with integrated library and discovery systems

* Expert in Microsoft Office program.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
