Assistant Director of Financial Aid Operations Job no: 494324 Work type: Staff Full-Time Location: Lake Charles, LA Categories: Financial Aid College: SOWELADepartment: Enrollment Management & Student AffairsType of Appointment: Unclassified - Administrative/StaffSalary: Duties and Responsibilities: • Research issues with the Department of Education in accordance with regulations and then implement technology strategies so that the college can act in compliance. • Supervises the Financial Aid Counselor and oversees all the training for this position. • Coordinate the Veterans Affairs Educational Benefits program at the college. • Assist with the institutional and SOWELA Foundation scholarship programs. • Develop financial statements and reports as needed. • Reconcile the federal Pell Grant program. • Monitor student awards for overaward situations and resolve as needed. • Develop and conduct financial aid training and information sessions. • Coordinate high school visits as needed for FAFSA Workshops. • Perform Return of Title IV Calculations, Pell grant recalculations, and post withdrawal disbursements in accordance with federal regulations. • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated student issues as they arise. • Continually identify new and innovative means by which the College can streamline financial aid related functions. • Initiates personnel actions such as hiring, coaching, developing, evaluating, and disciplining. Prepares work schedules; assigns or delegates responsibilities. Monitors payroll and timesheets. Sets deadlines to ensure completion of the Financial Aid functions. • Responsible for planning, controlling, communicating, and implementing procedures and processes for the overall efficient operations of the department or division. • Other duties as deemed necessary. Required Education: • Bachelor's degree from an accredited higher education institution. Required Experience: • Two years' experience in financial aid or another related department in a higher education setting.
