Knox College Invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Director of Intercultural Life.The Assistant Director of Intercultural Life is primarily responsible for coordinating student diversity educationand working collaboratively with campus offices to establish programs and services to promote the success ofAfrican American/Black, Latinx/Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, Native American/Alaskan Native, and Multiracial(ALANAM) students.Purpose:The Assistant Director of Intercultural Life is primarily responsible for coordinating student diversity education and working collaboratively with campus offices to establish programs and services to promote the success of African American/Black, Latinx/Hispanic, Asian/Pacific Islander, Native American/Alaskan Native, and Multiracial (ALANAM) students. Contributing to the inclusive excellence goals of the College, the assistant director develops programs to support cultural awareness and serves as an advisor to cultural/affinity student organizations. The Assistant Director will help manage the day-to-day functions and operations in the Intercultural Life office. The position involves high student interactions and mentoring and is a full-time, exempt, 12-month position. Some evening and weekend hours are required. The position is live-on or live-off, dependent upon the selected candidate's needs.Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists the department in the development and implementation of institutional-wide DEI policies and procedures.
  • Provides oversight and implementation for strengthening the ALANAM community.
  • Serves as a resource for student diversity education, particularly related to intersecting identities with race and ethnicity.
  • Assists in the development and facilitation of DEI workshops and training for students, faculty, and staff; works with the department to assist in the creation of DEI resources and tools for students, staff, faculty, and departmental units.
  • Collaborates with the department to create campus-wide inclusive programming for students and student organizations, including leadership training and orientation programming.
  • Collaborates with all related departments to create professional development and networking opportunities for historically underrepresented groups, first generation students and non-traditional students.
  • Meets regularly with student affinity groups and leaders. Collaborates with affinity groups and offers guidance on program planning, membership, and officer transitions each term.
  • Provide direct support to seven campus cultural centers (6 residential, 1 non-residential)
  • Works as part of the campus-wide duty rotation; responds to after-hour student and/or college emergencies as needed.
  • Serves as an instructor for IDIS 130, Knox's student leadership class
  • Other duties and committee appointments as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • One to three year's experience in student affairs (preferably at a residential liberal arts college).
  • Demonstrated commitment to the development and implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, and knowledge of issues that impact the retention and success of students from underrepresented populations.
  • Demonstrate a practical and working knowledge of anti-racist, pro-queer liberatory theory.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse faculty, staff and students; ability to effectively collaborate with external and internal offices and stakeholders; ability to communicate with faculty, staff, students, and community members.
