Assistant Director of Nursing Professional Development - Behavior Health - Hospital in Yonkers, NY - $140K/yr - $150K/yr On-site Full-time Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm

Qualifications:

  • Registered Professional Nurse currently licensed in the State of New York.
  • Master's degree in nursing required.
  • 2 years' experience in Nursing Education and/or Nursing Leadership preferred.
  • Certified Addiction Registered Nurse (CARN) Certification preferred. Also, must complete CARN certification within 3 year from hire date.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in acute care hospital setting. Behavioral and or Psychiatric experience preferred.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of Nursing Professional Development is responsible for planning,

implementing, teaching, and evaluating specific components of the Staff Development and Patient

Education program, including oversight of all Nursing Policies and Procedures. Plans and implements.

Nursing Service Orientation and continuing education programs for Behavioral Health Services.

Collaborates with Nursing Directors, Clinical Nurse Managers and Administrative Supervisors in assessing nursing staff educational needs. Designs annual educational offerings with realistic behavioral health objectives based on assessed learning needs which are consistent with goals, objectives and standards of Nursing Service and accrediting/licensing organizations. Collaborates with the union to provide educational materials and care offerings to our nursing staff.

Acts as liaison to vendors providing in-service education on new equipment to be used in the clinical setting.

Acts as a resource role model and internal consultant for nurse managers, nursing supervisors; and nursing staff members evidenced by maintaining and enhancing clinical and educational competency.

Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with Nursing Service staff and other departments.

Collaborate with Counseling Educator to ensure that Nursing team is up to date on CPI, Crisis Prevention, and Intervention Training. Assures that the Behavioral Health Services Nursing staff is up to date with all regulatory and clinical training requirements as well as updates in nursing practice.

Participates in developing, reviewing, and educating annually Nursing Service policies and procedures based on evidence, best practices, and expert communication.

Maintains, reviews, and evaluates educational record keeping and reporting systems and modifies, as necessary.

Acts as a trainer, facilitator, consultant, mentor, and supervisor to orientees.

Fosters a spirit of scholarship, inquiry, life-long learning and innovation for self and others.

Maintains relationship with regional professional organizations that support Addiction and Substance use Disorder Nursing Service continuing education.

Coordinates student placements, orients students, and organized preceptorships for undergraduate and graduate students. Disseminates knowledge and skills related to the role, patient population, clinical specialty and global or local health community healthcare needs. Demonstrates caring, respect, compassion, empathy and active listening through dialogue, body language and actions; and reinforces behavioral standards. Coordinates activities for maintaining educational materials. Fosters a fair and open culture that supports occurrence reporting.

Creates and sustains a BHS specific orientation that follows general hospital orientation at Andrus Pavilion.

Qualifications

Registered Professional Nurse currently licensed in the State of New York.

Master's degree in nursing required.

2 years' experience in Nursing Education and/or Nursing Leadership preferred.

Comprehensive understanding of Windows computer systems: Power Point, Excel, Outlook email.

Must obtain all needed certifications after 3 year of employment.
