Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant for Campus Recreation will serve as the lead facilities and operations manager for the Mashouf Wellness Center. The incumbent also supports Campus Recreation scheduling and management of other on-campus sport and recreation facilities, including the Gymnasium and outdoor field spaces on campus. Additionally, the Assistant leads the department in setting policy and practice for sustainability, assessment, and risk management. As a management position, the Assistant will serve as part of the Campus Recreation administrative leadership team supervising staff and students working in facilities management, operations, space reservations, marketing, memberships, and outreach. As an Administrator and part of the Campus Recreation executive team, the Assistant is involved in planning department personnel and financial needs; advice and consultation with daily operations support to the professional team and student Associates within the overall department; and participation in the advice and consultation for mission-driven values and outcomes. The Assistant performs highly complex professional student services by reviewing multifaceted individual, group or organizational problems, developing and recommending courses of action and implementing proposed solutions. The Assistant will support the strategic mission of the San Francisco State University campus, Student Affairs & Enrollment Management cabinet area, Division of Student Life, and Campus Recreation/Mashouf Wellness Center and its role in student access, learning, success, and graduation. Staff Management
  • Supervise support staff associated with facility operations within the Campus Recreation Department.
  • Recruitment & Hiring, Onboarding/Separation, Payroll, Training, Process development, Employee Engagement, Performance Management, Labor Relations. The incumbent assists in HR management, risk management, and labor relations issues and actions involving University property and resources. The incumbent analyzes human resource issues in the department and proposes management positions on employment issues and practices that comport with HR policies, guidelines, and practices at the University and CSU levels. Budget Oversight
    • Manage all capital projects. This incumbent will oversee all major repairs and renovations.
    • Oversee daily Operation & Expense Budget for all functional operation areas of the Mashouf. Operation Responsibility
      • Serve on any university emergency (EOC) & safety committees. When EOC is activated, this position will serve as a liaison between campus requirement and Mashouf Wellness center evacuation plan.
      • Oversee the climbing wall, ensuring all staff are certified, and the wall is up to code. Additionally, ensure that all permits and city & county requirements are up to date.
      • Liaison between university facilities services for any processes that need to be developed or changed.
      • Oversee preventative maintenance of Mashouf Wellness Center fitness equipment by working with third-party vendors and in-house maintenance.
      • Liaison between Campus & City partners to ensure major systems are up to code and approved for operation.
      • Fulfills all emergency response responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Campus Recreation. Work with campus partners and third-party vendors for events & operations. Environmental/Physical/Special Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment; work variable nights, weekends and/or holidays, on-campus or off-site, indoors and outdoors, depending upon work conditions and demands, including an occasional overnight stay; use computers and other communication tools for extended periods; and competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and campus community. Pre-Employment Requirements This position requires the successful completion of a background check.
        • A Master's Degree in recreation, sports administration, educational leadership, or related field.
        • Minimum of five (5) years of related professional experience with progressively increasing responsibilities.
        • Working knowledge of NIRSA's and and their application within collegiate recreation.
        • Demonstrated knowledge of facility management and operations, repair, maintenance, and risk management.
        • Demonstrated record of successfully planning, leading, implementing, supervising, and evaluating programs, projects, or initiatives in accordance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
        • Proven ability to work effectively and respectfully in a culturally diverse and ethnically rich environment.
        • Proven ability in the effective supervision, management, and evaluation of personnel, including the ability to inspire, influence and lead others towards achieving and maintaining high rates of participant and employee satisfaction. Desired
          • Demonstrated ability to articulate the role student life plays in recruitment, student success, retention, and graduation, and a commitment to college student development and student leadership.
          • Knowledge of the LEED rating system and a demonstrated commitment to sustainable business practices.
          • Prior experience managing a collegiate recreation or sports program.
          • Direct personnel management experience (hiring, training, and evaluating) of full-time/career staff.
          • Certification in American Red Cross Adult First Aid/CPR/AED or equivalent. #J-18808-Ljbffr
