Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Physical Plant is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the day-to-day operations of the Physical Plant department. This includes ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all college buildings and grounds, as well as the maintenance and repair of all physical plant equipment for students, faculty, staff, and community members. The Assistant Director will also work with the Director of Physical Plant to develop and implement long-term plans for the physical plant, and to ensure that the department complies with all applicable regulations.

Status: Full-Time 40 hours/52 weeks

Salary Range: $54,000 - $62,000 depending on experience

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

* Bachelor's degree in a related field (such as engineering, construction management, business administration or facilities management) preferred.

* Minimum of 3 years of experience in physical plant management preferred.

* Proven ability to lead and manage a team.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to relate to all employees.

* Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and problem-solving skills with people, equipment and facilities

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team

* Working knowledge of applicable regulations

* Available for building emergency calls for 3 shifts.

Essential Function:

* Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Physical Plant department, including the maintenance and repair of all college buildings and grounds, as well as the operation of all physical plant equipment.

* Assumes responsibilities for the overall appearance, and care and upkeep of buildings.

* Develop and implement long-term plans for the physical plant, in collaboration with the Director of Physical Plant.

* Ensure that the Physical Plant department complies with all applicable regulations and policies.

* Supervise, orient, train, coach, evaluate, schedule, and manage custodial staff and security (and others in the department.).

* Assist in preparation and management of budgets for the department.

* Conduct regular inspections of college buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify and address maintenance needs, and preventative maintenance programs.

* Maintains building security and manages physical plant access to campus spaces.

* Approve work orders for maintenance and repair projects.

* Work with outside contractors to ensure that maintenance and repair projects are completed on time and within budget.

* Assumes responsibilities as needed for providing 24-hour per day response coverage for building emergencies.

* Represent the Physical Plant department to the college community and to external stakeholders.

* Stay up to date on the latest trends in physical plant management.

* Serves as a lead on the safety evacuation team and other teams/committees.

* Other duties as assigned.
