Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of a degree, four (4) years of full-time directly related experience, or a combination of education and experience totaling four (4) years may be considered. Three (3) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible operational experience. One (1) year of supervisory experience. Security, physical security, and/or training experience. Must have a security guard license or NY DCJS approved law enforcement exemption. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. (***Out-of-State Applicants, see Special Notes ).Preferred Qualifications:Additional years (2+) of supervisory experience. Experience in responding to calls in a large medical hospital/facility. Experience with hospital regulatory agency requirements and site surveys (i.e., Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), New York Department of Health (NY DOH), Office of Mental Health (OMH) and Joint Commission). Certification in de-escalation training. Experience with access control projects. Experience as a Police Officer or Security Services Assistant 2. De-Escalation Instructor. DCJS Instructor Development Course Certified. CPR Instructor. New York State Police Certificate. Professional Security Certifications. American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) certifications (CPP, PCI, PSP). International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) certifications (CHSO, CAHSO, CHSSO).Brief Description of Duties:The Assistant Director of Public Safety will be responsible for the protection and public safety operations for Stony Brook Medicine Enterprise, including but not limited to security shift supervision and ensuring a safe and secure environment. This position reports to the Director of Public Safety. The candidate must be able to motivate the team and ensure the highest level of professional service. Resource planning, personnel management, and developing partnerships with stakeholders is essential. The incumbent must possess the ability to quickly analyze evolving situations and adopt an efficient and effective course of action. The successful candidate must possess a broad understanding and working knowledge of security operations and management. This position is also responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for Stony Brook Medicine. The incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. The incumbent must be available 24/7 to respond to emergencies.
Special Notes:This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed.
