Job Description:

Southwestern University, located in Georgetown has an immediate opening for an Assistant Director of the Center for Career & Professional Development. This position empowers students and alumni to shape their professional identities, develop career-readiness skills, and construct well-managed professional lives by providing advising, programming, and resources to explore education and career options, and engage in successful searches for employment. The Assistant Director will serve as a point of contact for student employment resources and initiatives in keeping with University's tactical goal to create a more robust student training and campus employment program . This is a full-time, fully benefited, exempt position who reports to the Director of the Center for Career & Professional Development.

Primary Duties:

* Designs and coordinates standardized student employment resources for the campus in collaboration with a group of interdepartmental staff representatives.

* Manages and updates student employment policies, procedures, and processes.

* Organizes events related to student employment, including student presentations and supervisor training.

* Provides career advising to assist current students and alumni develop career decisions and planning.

* Provides resume writing, interviewing, and job/internship search assistance.

* Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises departmental student staff.

* Develops, coordinates, and facilitates educational events related to career exploration and networking in collaboration with faculty, staff, and/or employer partners.

* Supports department marketing strategy through efforts with social and campus media.

* Participates in strategic planning and contributes input to develop and achieve objectives.

* Troubleshoots concerns and inquiries by alumni, parents, students, and employers.

* Facilitates connections between students, alumni, and employers via networking referrals.

* Assists in post-graduate survey collection and compilation of alumni career-outcomes data.

* Assists with Student Life efforts and office operations.

* May serve as a liaison to student groups and campus departments.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree.

* A minimum of one year of experience in higher education, human resources, or career services.

* A minimum of one-year experience in student supervision.

* Knowledge of career-development theory and application and basic understanding of and commitment to value of career competencies and career-readiness skills.

* Ability to have professional interactions with all internal and external University constituencies by using strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, listening).

* Initiative and creativity to develop and spearhead new projects.

* Ability to manage multiple projects and multitask.

* Ability to handle highly sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality.

* Ability to work as a member of a team.

* Discernment; ability to make independent judgements.

* Demonstrate leadership skills, including a strong work ethic.

* Ability and willingness to do occasional evening and weekend work.

* Willingness to adhere to the University's core values.

* Ability to attend work consistently and maintain a regular work schedule.

* Ability to be flexible, adjust to fluctuating priorities, and produce reliable work product.

* Proven ability to perform well in stressful situations.

* Ability and willingness to travel utilizing standard, commercial, and/or personal modes of transportation.

* Excellent computer skills utilizing software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, and career-technology tools.

* Have knowledge, understanding, and acceptance of cultural differences and the diversity within the campus and community.

Position Preferred Requirements:

* Master's Degree in higher education administration, counseling, or related field.

* Experience with student employment programs including recruitment, onboarding, training/assessment, or financial aid.
