Position Title:Assistant Director, PayrollTime Type:Full timePosition Summary and Qualifications:Reporting to the Payroll Director, the Assistant Director for Payroll is responsible for supporting and assisting the Director in the management of payroll processes and tax compliance reporting. The Assistant Director will support the oversight of payroll liability reconciliations, collaborate with supervisors and other campus partners to ensure adherence for accuracy and efficiency of payroll practices and procedures. This position must provide excellent customer service while ensuring confidentially and integrity of University data.Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of bi-weekly payroll for all employees.
- Complete administrative daily transactions and ensure accuracy of employee records.
- Ensure the confidentiality, accuracy, integrity and security of all payroll data.
- Run reports and audit payroll and related records for accuracy, identify discrepancies, and coordinate with appropriate constituents to resolve data issues.
- Assist with the oversight of all University payroll processes according to defined processes and schedules.
- Maintain and update SOPs for the entire payroll process to ensure continuity
- Serve as the backup for payroll processing for the Director.
- Provide excellent customer service regarding all payroll related questions in a timely and courteous manner to all inquiries with a response time goal of a 24-hour turnaround.
- Remain accessible, visible, and ready to serve as a resource for internal colleagues and employees with questions about payroll.
- Collaborate with supervisors and other campus partners to resolve any post/pre-processing issues relating to time, pay, benefit deduction and compensation changes.
- Assist with testing of new processes, software releases, system upgrades and regulatory changes within the Workday system.
- Ensure proper taxation of all voluntary/involuntary benefits.
- Ensure all employees are configured properly to be sure appropriate withholdings are being made in compliance with all federal, state and local requirements.
- Maintain policies and procedures for the proper and consistent management of information and resources to ensure adequate financial reporting controls are in place.
- Serve as a functional expert to all constituents across campus for all payroll related forms and processing issues
- Provide data and assist with payroll related requests for all audits, including workers compensation payroll audit, and other audit activities as requested.
- Ensure compliance with all court orders and bargaining agreement requirements regarding employee pay
- Prepare, process, and balance payroll liabilities.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, establishing professional networks.
- Maintain payroll system functions in collaboration with IT and WD consultants.
- Work with director to ensure and understand compliance with all tax regulations and applicable laws.

Minimum QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.
- Approximately 4-6 years of payroll experience.
- Demonstrated ability to gain proficiency with new applications such as Microsoft Office, Google Platform, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of payroll tax laws, regulations, principles and methods.
- Ability to manage data and information with a high level of confidentiality.
- Strong analytic skills with experience developing reports.
- Excellent customer service, written and oral communication skills.
- Satisfactory completion of University background checks including a credit check review.
Preferred
- CPP or FP Payroll certifications are preferred.
- Payroll experience in higher education or non-profit setting.
- Knowledge of Workday HCM/Payroll highly preferred.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
- Ability to use computer for extended periods of time.
- Position may require additional hours to be worked as necessary to ensure payroll is processed timely.
- This position may eligible for a flexible work work arrangement (hybrid) up to 2 days per week per the University's guidelines and meeting performance expectations.
