Job Description:

The primary role of the Assistant Director of Premedicine and Allied Health Professions Program is to support the Program Director in the following activities:

* Offer individual advising appointments for students and alumni interested in the health professions. This includes: course planning; career exploration; and exploring opportunities for professional development, networking, connecting to resources, community service, summer academic enrichment programs, post-baccalaureate programs.

* Manage affiliations with healthcare professionals and organizations for clinical and research exposure, internships, and employment opportunities for students and alums.

* Serve as an advisor for various Pre-Health student organizations and assist with organizing events.

* Plan and organize events. Examples include: Dean Visits, Health Professions Symposium, clinical correlations talks by alums in the health professions, workshops for applications, personal statement writing, interview skills.

* Serve as a liaison to the Premedical Advisory Committee, Matthews Center, Center for Civic Engagement, Fellowship Office, Office of Sponsored Programs, Holistic Advising, Admissions Office, Development Office, academic departments, and CAHP.

* Support student efforts in their applications to health professions programs and other pre-health pathways such as post-baccalaureate and special master's programs.

* Develop and support innovative curricular opportunities including programming and workshops for students.

* Represent Davidson College to professional schools both as a spokesperson as well as an advocate for applicants.

* Partner with the Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to support students from underrepresented communities.

* Partner with the Office of Academic Access and Disability Services to identify and support Pre-Health students who need additional help with life skills.

* Responsible for the overall management of budget, outcomes data, and strategic initiatives.

* Pursue professional development opportunities through the NAAHP and SAAHP including keeping up with updates and trends in health professions advising.

PRIMARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

* Individual advising for current students and alumni demonstrating excellence in working with diverse students and awareness of their lived experiences and individual needs.

* Support student efforts in their applications to health professions programs and other pre-health pathways.

* Responsible for the overall management of departmental budget, outcomes data, and strategic initiatives.

* Manage affiliations with healthcare organizations for clinical and research exposure, internships, and employment opportunities for students and alumni. Maintain records related to student participation.

* Serve as an advisor to different Pre-Health societies, particularly MAPS, and assist with developing and supporting innovative curricular opportunities including programming and workshops for students.

* Serve as a liaison to the various offices on campus, including Matthews Center for Career Development, Center for Civic Engagement, Center for Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Fellowship Office, Office of Sponsored Programs, Holistic Advising, Admissions Office, Development Office, academic departments, and alumni groups and prospective students and families.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A Master's degree is required in a related discipline.

* Minimum of 1 year of experience 1:1 health professions advising which includes advising undergraduate students and/or alumni and post-baccalaureate students. 3-5 years of experience strongly preferred.

* Knowledge of admission requirements for graduate health professions programs.

* Strong communication skills - oral presentations, writing, and active listening skills.

* Demonstrated excellence working directly with people from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

* Strong organizational and data management and analytical skills are essential to success in this position.

* Up-to-date knowledge of best practices in health professions advising and career development.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS POSITION

This position will require extensive interactions with students, alums, and other internal and external stakeholders. As planning and organizing events is an important aspect of the position, the position has physical demands.

This is primarily an administrative position. However, applicants interested in part-time teaching are encouraged to apply.

Availability for evening events once or twice a month may be required, particularly in the fall semester.
