UI Healthis dedicated to the pursuit of health equity.The RN Assistant Director Quality and Compliance Perioperative Services assists, collaborates and works under the direction of Director for Quality and Clinical Education Perioperative Services. The Assistant Director is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and compliance of departmental quality and efficiency initiatives. The Assistant Director is responsible for staff orientation, staff competencies, clinical education, and in-services.The RN Assistant Director assists in assessing planning, implementation and evaluation of process improvement initiatives and strategies for all Perioperative departments. The Assistant Director leads and participates in Perioperative Departments quality initiatives with a goal of excellence, best patients' outcomes, and zero harm. Focus on meeting departmental metrics and ensure effective processes and procedures are aligned with regulatory requirements (such as Joint Commission, IDPH, CMS etc.).Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical quality & regulatory compliance
  • Lead quality improvement projects including enhancements to processes, procedures, infrastructure, and EMAR to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and align the Perioperative Departments with evidence based best practices and programs. Oversea corporate compliance program(s) as it applies to Perioperative Departments develops and maintains compliance record(s). Ensures that all required elements of compliance are implemented and followed.
  • Engage with customers, staff, physician partners and key stakeholders to build and to foster collaborative Perioperative environment.
  • Evaluate the need for new Perioperative quality and/or safety improvement initiatives, design, implement, monitor/measure compliance through audits and report findings to Perioperative Leaders. Develop data driven action plans.
  • Prepare Perioperative Departments for regulatory visit(s).
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge of corporate compliance requirements, related laws, and regulations as mandated or recommended by JC, CMS, IDPH and other agencies.
  • Develops and oversees processes for internal incident reporting and escalation.
  • Reviews incident reports and conducts follow-ups for all Perioperative Patient(s) Safety events. Develops written patient safety plan(s) as well as evaluation of the plan's effectiveness. Reports findings to Perioperative leaders.
  • Collaborates with Associate Chief Clinical Operations Officer, Director Quality and Clinical Education, and Perioperative Directors in investigation of clinical events, including sentinel events, near misses, or violation of Red Rules. Leads and/or participates in development of root cause analysis as directed by the leadership.
  • Recruit, lead, develop, engage, and mentor departmental talent.
  • Develops and maintains Perioperative Department policies and procedures.
Education & Orientation
  • Evaluate and adjust Perioperative Departments staff orientation programs to meet departmental needs.
  • Prepare and oversee the execution of Perioperative staff training programs and documentation to ensure all staff are compliant.
  • Monitor progress of staff on orientation. Adjust orientation to meet individual staff training needs.
  • Monitor staff compliance with orientation requirements and coach non- complaint staff.
  • Collect, evaluate, and develop action plan(s) based on preceptor performance feedback.
  • Perform annual staff in-service and manage best practices, requirements, and updates.
  • Collects data regarding staff learning needs and proposes action plan.
  • Designs specialty-based orientations for clinical staff & new Perioperative leaders.
  • Designs annual in-service calendars and continuing education programs for staff.
  • Participates in the design of centralized and unit-based preceptor education and development initiatives.

Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Current license as a Professional Registered Nurse f rom the State of Illinois, and BSN, required.
  • CNOR
  • Previously demonstrated data analytics skills.
  • Three (3) years of operating nursing experience.
  • Proficiency in EPIC required.
  • Previously demonstrated leadership skills evidenced by serving as a charge nurse or, operating room educator, surgical service line team leader, or a leader of a committee.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written).
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in on-the-job training.
  • Data entry skills, ability to collect, input and interpret data, maintain records, run, and present monthly reports.
  • Work on site schedule- Monday through Friday 0700-1500.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Nursing, or Master Healthcare Administration or Master Business Administration.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit-specific certifications.
  • Five (5) years experience in perioperative services project in quality, efficiency, compliance and education.
  • Previous experience as an Operating Room educator or Operating Room manager.
  • Previous experience working within multidisciplinary teams or nursing leadership committees.
  • Attention to details, interpersonal skills, and team oriented.
