The Position:Assistant Director, Specialty Housing & Multicultural Life
Job Summary:The Muhlenberg College Offices of Housing and Residence Life & Multicultural Life invite applications for an Assistant Director to serve as a member of a collaborative student affairs team. The successful candidate will support and manage Muhlenberg Independent Living Experience (MILE) properties, affinity and interest housing, and campus-wide programmatic initiatives to cultivate a community of inclusivity and pursue specific goals and objectives to further the College's commitment to social justice and equity.

Characteristic Responsibilities:Residential Life- Manage three residence hall facilities housing up to a total of 475 upper class students, including opening and closing of residence facilities for the academic year and breaks, managing the inventory process, conducting inspections and bi-weekly walk-throughs.
- Supervise two Head Resident Advisors (HRAs) and up to 11 Resident Advisors (RAs).
- Plan and facilitate meetings with HRAs, RAs, and Head Resident Advisor staff meetings.
- Facilitate the HRA/RA evaluation process.
- Facilitate RA training sessions.
- Provide mentorship, advising and coaching support for underrepresented students across their multiple identities and affinity groups.
- Oversee hearings for minor violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
- Refer students of concern to campus partners, as appropriate (Office of Disability Services, Health & Counseling, etc.)
- Educate and manage conflict resolution through restorative practices.
- Coordinate the implementation of residential curriculum components, including budget management, resident advisor program completion and collaboration with campus partners.
- Serve as a direct liaison between Multicultural Life and Residence Life.
Multicultural Life - Advise 5 Multicultural Life interns.
- Supervise 6 affinity groups.
- Support student-directed projects and events, which may include: Multicultural Council, Shout-Outs, and MLK week events, etc.
- Serve as staff mentor for the Emerging Leader Program.
- Manage communications between the Multicultural Center and affinity groups on campus including periodic check-ins and annual report reviews for culturally-based organizations.
- Create and facilitate training for student affinity group leaders.
Other Duties- Participate in on-call duty rotation for the residential population with 5 HRL professional staff members about 10 weeks throughout the year.
- Assist with department, divisional and campus wide projects and committees.
- Facilitate presentations and attend HRL and Multicultural Life meetings and campus events.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
While no one person may possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional experiences and characteristics:
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in Student Affairs or a related field preferred.
- Minimum one year housing/residence life experience required.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
- Ability to serve in a trainer capacity.
- Ability to advise student clubs and organizations, special interest communities, and/or fraternities and sororities.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work 2 weekends and a few weekday evenings each semester.
- MS Office and Google Workspace proficiency.
- Successful completion of satisfactory background checks.
