Start DateJanuary 2025DivisionCenter for Philanthropy/AdvancementUnion AffiliationAssociation of Professional Administrators (APA)Position NumberFY25-19Application DeadlineJanuary 3, 2025Supervision ReceivedReports to the Yacht and Boat Donation Program DirectorSupervision ExercisedSupervises subordinate professional, classified, work study and student personnel in their area of responsibility.General ResponsibilitiesGENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Assistant Director of Yacht and Boat Donations will work with the Director of the Yacht and Boat Donation Program (YBDP) and the Center for Philanthropy/Advancement Team to help coordinate and promote Massachusetts Maritime Academy's (MMA) boat donation program, including but not limited to the following activities:Facilitate donation activities to include survey, inspection, inventory, transportation options and IRS rules for charitable boat donations such as Significant Intervening Use and Material Improvements. Provide outreach to yacht brokers, boat yards and marinas to find potential donation candidates.Assist with marketing efforts at regional and local boat shows such as the Newport Boat Show, Providence, and Boston boat shows.Analyze donor data to identify trends and develop/implement strategies for increasing future donor engagement.Update lists of yacht inventories, yacht brokers, insurance brokers, marine surveyors and marine industry contacts.Help prepare web based and print advertising of the boat donation program for soliciting new donations and marketing of current inventory.Ensure that accurate information for the Internal Revenue Service, United States Coast Guard, local and state authorities concerning the donor and Academy is filed promptly and accurately.Help to manage and maintain MMA yacht and boat donation facilities at Joint Base Cape Cod and assets at satellite facilities including New England Boat Works, Barden's Boat Yard, Fairhaven Shipyard and other locations as assigned by the Director of YBDP.Coordinate and actively engage in the maintenance, scheduling, and transportation of all vessels used by the MMA Offshore Sailing Team, Cruising Club and Fishing Club and make recommendations and repairs as necessary.Take an active role in commissioning, rigging, de-rigging, covering, winterizing and storing of all boats attached to the YBDP.Supervise activities onboard vessels and in marina facilities to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirementsMay provide over-the-road transportation for sail and power-driven vessels attached to the YBDP.May be assigned to assist with the operation of sail or power-driven vessels assigned to clubs, sailing team, or other MMA affiliated programs.Work closely with the Center for Philanthropy/Advancement fundraising team to identify and align donor engagement strategies with overall fundraising and Academy goals.May be assigned as an Academy representative on Academy vessels and/or donor vessels while underway.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications and RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree in a related disciplineValid Massachusetts Driver's LicenseProficiency in Google Office Suite and social media platformsAbility to use and update web-based informationAbility to effectively communicate and collaboratively exchange informationStrong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skillsMust have a high degree of professionalism and ability to interact with a variety of entities and individualsMust possess a high level of independence in accomplishing the responsibilities of the positionMust be self-directed and able to work with minimal supervisionExperienced in all phases of boat repair related to sail and power vesselsExperienced in navigation of sail- and power-driven vessels up to 70'Passion for the Academy, its students and higher education with a commitment to fostering donor relationships and the mission of the AcademyAbility to work occasional nights and weekendsPreferred QualificationsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Understanding and working knowledge of USCG and Massachusetts Environmental Police regulations.Basic knowledge of IRS rules for charitable donations relative to boat donations.Boating experience racing and cruising in New England waters.Sales/ customer service experience working with high-net-worth individuals.Salary$73,000 - $80,000How to ApplyTo apply electronically via email, please attach a cover letter and resume, Employment Application and Affirmative Action form along with the contact information of five (5) professional references to ...@maritime.edu Alternatively, application materials may be mailed to Human Resources, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 101 Academy Drive, Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.
