Job Description:

Job Objective: Responsible for the development, promotion, resourcing, and administration of programming for youth with an emphasis in evangelism, community, and the external assets in Search Institutes 40 Developmental Assets for the division. This position aids corps in the division to obtain and maintain community center and youth programming licenses as required by the state and it provides administrative support to the Divisional Youth and Candidates Secretary. This position is the assistant to the Divisional Youth Secretary and is expected to aid in programming, youth leadership, & resource development for the division.

Essential Functions

Youth & Family Ministries

  • Responsible for program implementation and resourcing the corps with program needs for Character Building, Kids Club, etc. This could include assisting with resource material, registrations, and emblem tracking.
  • Administer youth ministry awards and emblems for the division.
  • Advise, consult, encourage, and promote the development and implementation of the children's ministries in the division using the 40 Developmental Assets.
  • Plan and implement rallies including but not limited to Character building and The Salvation Army Outdoors (TSAO) events/ activities.
  • Assist in the planning and programming for camps which includes the hiring process and attending recruitments events.
  • Manage and maintain records and registrations for youth ministry in the division using the Camp Management System (CMS).
  • Plan and coordinate youth ministry programs for summer camps and divisional events.
  • Maintain college engagement through visitations, networking, etc.
  • Increase the engagement with the Summer Mission Team and promote participation in the division.
  • Work with the DYS to find special guests, Bible Study materials, devotional focus, etc. for divisional events and programs.
  • Resource and equip the youth discipleship programs throughout the division including Cradle Roll, Corps Cadets, Junior Soldiers, Young Adult Ministries, Discover 730, and any other programming for Christian discipleship.
  • Resource and equip the youth discipleship programs throughout the division.
  • Visit the Corps regularly for the purpose of supervising/monitoring/supporting various youth discipleship programs and encouraging the development of youth discipleship programs where they do not exist in the division.
  • Lead and/or participate in the planning and implementation of Divisional Youth Department events and camps.
  • In coordination with the Youth Spiritual Formation & Leadership Development Specialist, provide training for local youth leaders with the focus of programming.
  • Represent The Salvation Army, Kansas & Western Missouri Division, and Youth Department in local, divisional, territorial or national events and committees which are related to youth discipleship ministries as requested.
  • Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army's Safe from Harm Certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as related to the needs of the position.

Community Engagement

  • Help the corps to evaluate their community engagement.
  • Ensure that all programs for youth and young adults are inclusive and engage all social, racial, and ethnic communities.
  • Become the leading expert in Kansas Child Care Center licensing in order to assist all Salvation Army Community Centers to obtain and maintain the necessary licensing.
  • Provide support and guidance for community center and recreational programs.

The Salvation Army Outdoors (TSAO)

  • Lead TSAO ministries for the division including any trainings and TSAO camp ministries.
  • Manage TSAO resources for the division.
  • Plan, promote, and train local leaders in TSAO activities and programs.
  • Implement TSAO at Summer camps.
  • Coordinate and communicate with territory-level colleagues for TSAO training sessions.
  • Participate in special meetings in support for TSAO training programs throughout the division as requested.

Program Resource Management

  • Manage general correspondence for the department using the department email (KWM Youth in box).
  • Provide administrative support (correspondence, reports, supplies, lodging arrangements, registration, and onsite clerical support) for various divisional events and camps, via camp management software.
  • Manage invoice processing.

Safe from Harm

  • Ensure that the Safe from Harm guidelines are adhered to and that youth leaders are adequately trained.

Additional Duties

  • Represent The Salvation Army by carrying out the mission in all aspects of our services.
  • Assist in planning and organizing all special event coordinated by the Kansas & Western Missouri Division Youth Department
  • Participate in set up, and clean- up from all divisional youth events.
  • Work with the Youth Department in all related duties as assigned.
  • This position has an essential role in fulfilling the full mission of the Salvation Army. As a result of the integral nature of this responsibility, engagement in a local corps youth programming as well as active membership in a Salvation Army Corps is required.
  • Perform regular work duties at the Divisional Camp each summer and participate in Salvation Army camping ministry.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree preferred, minimum of 8 years of significant related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree or 4 years of relevant experience with an associate's degree. Youth Ministries, Christian Education, Childhood Development, or a related field preferred.

Experience: Three years' experience in a related field; three years' experience serving in The Salvation Army youth ministry programming preferred

Certifications/Licenses: None

Skills/Abilities:

  • An ability to effectively manage efficiently manage people, projects and budgets successfully.
  • An understanding of the Biblical standards and ministry of The Salvation Army.
  • A desire and ability to work with young people and the ability to motivate and inspire people to see the importance of Youth programming in The Salvation Army.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment. Able to operate a computer with knowledge of applicable software including Microsoft Office, Access and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to promote TSA through public speaking, written work and effectively work well with others.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations in a sensitive and culturally appropriate nabber.
  • Must be willing and available to work irregular and extended hours.

Supervisory Responsibility: Oversee Youth Ministry volunteers.

Physical Requirements: Include sitting, walking and standing for extended periods of time; bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting; grasping, pushing, and pulling objects; reaching overhead; lifting up to 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel:

  • Represent youth and young adult ministries programs throughout the KWM division and territorial events as directed by Divisional Youth & Candidates Secretaries.
  • Participate in special meeting in support of Character Building, Vacation Bible School, and Divine Sunday Programs throughout the division as requested, etc.
  • Responsible for six quarterly visits to corps for annual consult involving Children's ministry programs.
  • Fleet vehicle available to be checked out for travel (provided by Divisional Headquarters)

Driving/Travel: This position requires an employee to drive. Employee must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet safety program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must be willing to work at the Divisional Camp throughout the summer youth camping season and participate in other off-site Youth Department programs. Some same-day or overnight travel may be required to attend seminars/ workshops/ camps as assigned (or as requested with approval)

Working Conditions: Work performed in a typical office environment that will require willingness and ability to work irregular and extended hours; position will require some weekend and evening work along with eight weeks of office relocation at Three Trails Camp.
